I have found birth Cert that states 1927, born Claxton, I do remember been told he had a fall out with dad so changed his name. But on the birth Cert it states mothers maiden name as Claxton. Also found a M cert for William Claxton and Jessie Smith 1928, but the mother would have been Smith ???
The last known address in Sheffield is Hampton Road Pitsmoor, Back of 34, but i have found a William Claxton for number 36.
On his Marriage cert, it states father as William, but no surname cert 1946 Sept to Baldwin my mother.

That is all the information I have, so I am just taking a long shot of posting, hoping there maybe still family around that may know of him ;-)
