Hi Carol

Thanx for all the info, it really is appreciated, it is a very hard one, I know she has purchased 100's of cert's over the years and all been dead ends, so think she is wanting a little more proof b4 she purchases the Leonard bc. I know the middle names are not always on the index's as I have found a few of my own family, that I know have middle names, but they are not stated on the index, so wasn't worring too much about that.

A question, during the war could they sign up as young as 16? I know she said she worked is age out to be 1926, from the mc but this is the nearest record, with all the names tying into what she remembers.

Oh another thing, she applied for his war records, and they took the fee lol, but said they couldn't release anything unless she had proof he was deceased. Which she hasn't. The nearest one for a death record was in 20?? I forget without checking, but the dates tied in for his age, and the job was communications, she did contact the hostel where he died, but she was told they dont keep records, and gave his address, but she found nothing from that either, its so sad, when she has searched for over 30 years to try and trace him, all she remembers is that her mum & Dad seperated in 1951ish, she said they were only together for about 6 years, she remembers visiting nannie claxton, and when her mum died she found in a draw an address, it was a envelope addressed to her father at Hampton Road, so thats how she came by the address, she said her mother would never speak of her father, so she doesn't know anything, other what we are uncovering now, she is just wanting something to make sense, before she buys anymore records.

Thank you for your help, but i do agree, i think we need to see the marriage cert, to see what is actually on there, I know she told me fathers name just said William, but she wasn't sure that Claxton was the name as she was told by a close friend that worked with her father in the guards, that he had changed his name after a fall out with his father, she did also say, he and the friend, had private telephone numbers to the queen, and someone else big, but it was all very hush hush. My memory isn't what it was lol ;-) xxx
