Does anyone know where burials took place in Salford prior to the establishing of Cemeteries. I know local churches would be the obvious place but some of these churches were only very small with very limited burial areas. What happened to the non church goers? Where would burial records be kept for the deceased? I am particularly interested in a burial 1841-1851 in the Sacred Trinity church area of Salford. The deceased would almost certainly been buried as a pauper but was catholic and unlikely to be in this church yard. There were no catholic churches in Salford at the time. The nearest catholic church was in Manchester city centre with no burial yard. So where were all these people laid to rest?
many thanks kevin
