Lancaster Quarter Sessions 1798 - CRAGG

Hi,

In the book "Voyage to Sydney in the Ship Hillsborough 1798-1799 and a description of the colony" by William Noah a John Cragg is mentioned. He had been tried in the Lancaster Quarter Sessions on January 17th 1798 and sentenced to 7 years. The crime is currently unknown.

The Hillsborough sailed from Gravesend, England in October 1798 and at Portsmouth on November 24th John Cragg was transferred from one of the Langstone Harbour hulks (either the Lafortuna or Ceres) to the Hillsborough.

Would anybody have information on the Lancaster Quarter Sessions in 1798? Where would I find more information (eg age, crime, place of origin etc.)? May be recorded under the name of Craig.

Thanks,

David
