Thanks for the useful suggestion re his regimental record.I'll do that!It's not easy to see the cap badge and I know nothing about military uniforms.I did find a site which listed badges so I'll try to find it again and have another look.Although the photographer was from Liverpool I have just noticed an impressed postmark of Rhyl 3 August 13 which may or may not help.I've tried looking for his record on Ancestry to no avail.
Re the second query he was born in 1888.
