I am trying to find some record of my partner's grandfather. His grandmother had a relationship with a soldier probably called Frederick Downey or similar serving at Shornecliffe barracks in Folkestone, Kent in the early 1940's. My partner's father was subsequently born in 1943.
We have been told Frederick Downey was a RSM with a powerful voice for shouting orders and may have lived in Margate in the late 40s/50s. I believe his regiment at Shornecliffe would have been the West Kent Regiment or 'The Buffs'.
