Perhaps the following obituary will help someone in the research of their Whyte family. This is all that appears in the newspaper concerning this person.

"R. A. Whyte who died in Windsor last week, was a son of Post Captain Whyte, late of Her Majesty's Navy, and was born at Yapping House, Hampshire, England, on the 30th December 1819. He came to Canada and settled in the vicinity, thirty years ago, since which time he had been engaged in a variety of business pursuits. An older brother, John Whyte, a retired Admiral, survives him."

The above was taken from the newspaper, Amherstburg Echo, Friday, May 14, 1875, page 3, Amherstburg and Windsor are both located in Essex County, Ontario, Canada.
