Records of two christenings at St Werburghs are shown on the LDS Family Search website:
William Cole, Dec 7, 1595; John Cole, Sep 27, 1601. Their father is shown as William Cole. I cannot access the Church records from that time but I believe that William, the son, may be my 8th great grandfather, and that by the mid 1630's was living in York County, Maine, USA. This William also would have married Elizabeth Doughty the daughter of a one time Bristol City merchant/alderman, Francis Doughty. In a Boston civil trial in the late 1630's, a William Cole stated that he was late of Chew Magna, Somerset and that John Cole, his brother was living at Farrington, Somerset in 1639. Were there more Cole family members christened at St Werburghs around the time period first mentioned above, or earlier?
