Surnames: Cole, Doughty
According to LDS Family Search, William Cole had two sons who were christened at St Werburghs Parish Church in Bristol, England: William - Dec 7, 1595; John - Sep 27, 1601. I believe it is possible that William the son is my 8th great grandfather and that he later married Elizabeth Doughty, the daughter of a respected Bristol City alderman and merchant, Francis Doughty, and that the Coles then emigrated to what is now York County, Maine. From the records of a civil trial in Boston in the late 1630's (Coles vs Doughty - Lechford papers), it appears that William was late of Chew Magna, Somerset County and that his brother John was at the time living in Farrington, Somerset County. I understand these villages are only a few miles from Bristol. I cannot access the St Werburgh records but was wondering if within this family there is a Nicholas Cole?
