I am searching for information on John POPE, possibly of Devon county, born about 1600. He married Jane CLAP, daughter of Nicolas CLAP of Venn Ottery, Devon. He emigrated to the Massachusetts Bay Colony about 1633, and is listed there as a weaver of a material called "azell". Might anyone know of any surname resources regarding the Pope name in this part of the Westcountry, or perhaps something of the weavers trade at that time. Exeter has been suggested as a possible origin for this John Pope.Thanks.
