HOWARD -- Frank, died in Plymouth, U.K. October 13 in his 84th year. Born in England, he worked through the 1930's on British merchant ships including blockade-runners to Republican ports during the Spanish Civil War. Frank sailed in the Canadian Merchant Marine during and immediately after World War II and then worked in the B.C. coastal trade, on weather observation vessels in the North Pacific and in the Arctic. A resident of Vancouver from the 1940's to mid 1990's, he had been a member of the Canadian Seamen's Union, West Coast Seamen's Union, CBRT Local 400 and Canadian Merchant Service Guild. Frank is survived by his wife Christy and family in England and by many friends and former shipmates in Canada and New Zealand. His ashes were scattered at sea following cremation at Plymouth, October 20, 1998.
