Dear friend [Sarah Allen Murphy]I write these few lines to inform you that I am in very poor in health at present but hopes this will find you and your husband and family in the enjoyment of good health I have to inform you that, I received your kind and welcome letter and I am very Thankful to you for the present you sent me which I have received all right
Dear friend I enclose 2 photo’s of your dear mother [Margaret Allen, maiden name uncertain] and uncle Thomas I tried to get her taken by herself but the man told me he could not do it so I got a hald Dozen taken from the old one for half a crown
Dear friend I can not send you your uncle Neil’s Address for your dear mother had no letters from him for some years it seems he has left the place where he formerly resided but I will do all in my power to try and find his Address for you
I am sending you a Carlisle newspaper
