DIXON -- Thomas McAdams passed away peacefully on November 5, 1999 in his 93rd year. Predeceased by his wife Lilian (nee MAKI); brother Dick; sisters Molly BALL and Sally FINDLAY. Tom grew up and lived in Nanaimo for most of his life having arrived as a baby with parents Joseph and Catherine Dixon from Maryport, Cumbria, England. Tom is survived by daughter Selma-Jo (George) RICHARDS and son Alan (Dianne) Dixon. Plus grandson Christian (Kate) Richards with great-granddaughters Emma, Gillian and Sarah; grandson Tim (Andrea) Richards with great-grandson Matthew; grandson Clay Dixon with great-grandddaughter Dianne; and granddaughter Virginia (Mark) MANI with great-grandsons Aidan and Ruedi. Tom is also survived by his sister-in-law Laila RAYNOR of Parksville; cousin Liz MORROW of Workington, Cumbria; nieces Lorna LEHTI, Catherine LOYER, Norma BROWNLEE, Catherine TAYLOR, Jacquie ARMITAGE, all of Nanaimo, Dorothy HEGGLUND, Crofton; and Rose WOOLNOUGH, New Zealand; plus extended family. Tom had a life-long interest in trains. Except for two years working on trains in New Zealand, he spent all of his working life in Nanaimo at the Canadian Collieries rail carshop and latterly on the train at Harmac pulp mill. He was soccer goalie for South-End United, a life-time member of Nanaimo Lawn Bowling Club and a life member of Nanaimo Lodge No. 10, A.F. & A.M. A memorial reception will be held in Nanaimo in early December as details are arranged. Special family thanks are given to the kind and caring 2nd Floor staff of the Capilano Care Centre in West Vancouver where Tom lived since 1993.
