Hicks family from the Isles of Scilly Cornwall

Hello Everyone,
I am putting together a comprehensive tree on the Hicks family on the Isles of Scilly and I am sending out an SOS to anyone out there who may have any back copies of the "Scillionian" magazine.
I am looking for any mention of Hicks on /or to do with the Isles and I see from indexes that there appear to be some obits regarding some of the "newer" Hicks members of the Islands. If anyone has access to these articles or any information at all from family journals etc I would be very pleased to hear from you. I intend on donating the finished tree to the Museum when I finally get it finished.
My connection to the islands is through the Pearce line who married into the Hicks.

Hello, William Henry Pearce was my great granduncle. His brother John (1864) was my gr grandfather.
I don't know much of what happened to William and his family- only what I have been able to find out from various records. DO you happen to know any information regarding when William and Edith died?
I didn't know about a son called Albert - as they didn't marry until 1897 - I presume this was from someone else?

I have no confirmation that she is still living, am just trying to trace back not asking for her address (if she is still living). As my original post said the marriage log is all I can find of this person, nothing since or before so am stuck on building a family tree

I would like to find the record of the marriage of William Trethewy and Jane Brokenshire, supposedly, on 26 July 1773 in St Dennis, Cornwall.
I have checked the Cornwall parish registers for St Dennis on Family Search website but 1773 is not there.
A search on Ancestry and Family Search does not find it either.

OK, so we do have the right Johanna.

The error was that the "sister" Catherine was actually Johanna's illegitimate daughter Kate (Catherine Burton Retallick) who travelled out to Aus almost 20 years later.

Now the only mystery is were Thomas and Kate really engaged in England before Johanna travelled out to Aus? I find it unlikely.

I am trying to find out if there is any family connection between James Beckerleg and John and Honour Parmer Lee. According to their marriage certificate, James witnessed their marriage on July 21, 1806 in Paul, but I have no information on either of their antecedents.

There is a record for Naturalisation Papers for a Johnson John from Denmark issued 12 May 1845, Certificate 146.
Check the site National Archives this will allow you to view the certificate fee £3.36.
As an example my fathers cert gives the following.
Name, Address, Profession, Date and place of birth, Nationality, name of parents and name of husband or wife.

I am related to John Trewren of Trewardreva Constantine Cornwall my email is yvonnebrand@bigpond.com and I have a wealth of information that I can pass on It was stated that the last of our line was buried in Taunton (Devon) in 1818 but later information shows Trewrens living in Hampshire London and Kent. My grandfather was Alfred John Trewren, my great grandfather was Frederick Trewren. I am the last of the line and live in South Australia now.

Hi. I have visited the old family homes in Penzance, church etc and I know a great deal about the family including John and Rosanna's children- including the fact that one daughter went to Australia and one to USA. I have contacts there.
But..... John Johnson himself is a bit of an enigma in that he became a Naturalised British Citizen being born in Denmark - somewhere! His father was also a John so that is not too helpful.
I am really trying now to establish if anyone has any information on John. He was a Master Mariner and I have a lot of detail about that area of his lifet but I need to get back to his- and my - roots in Denmark.
Also it would be nice to find any 'family' in Cornwall.
Any help would be wonderful!

John and Rosanna are my Great Great Grandparents.
John was born in Denmark , he was a seaman who became a Master Mariner living in Penzance with his family. He became a Naturalised British subject in 1845 and died in Penzance in 1899.

Burial record for John Stanaway (1806-1859.) Civil death registration first quarter 1859 Liskeard. Spouse's name was Ann (no death record.) 1851 English census lists their residence as Dobwalls. Jan 1854 baptism of their daughter Amelia was at Wesleyan Methodist in Liskeard. John's burial most likely at Methodist or municipal cemetery in Dobwalls or Liskeard.

Hi, Nicholas Holman (1777 - 1862) from Camborne, Cornwall was my 4th great grandfather. He started the family business that became the Holman Bros. I am related to his daughter Elizabeth Harvey Carthew (nee Holman) (1816 - 1903) who came out to Australia in 1864.

My mother and I are interested in corresponding with any other descendants of Nicholas Holman - sharing research notes, etc :-)

Mary was described as being 3 years old at the time of her christening. (born 17 May 1811). They were baptised at the Penzance Lower Meeting Independent Chapel according to the Cornwall OPC database.
A Mary Nicholls DUNSTAN was buried aged 17 on 14 Jan 1828 at the Independent Chapel, Southwark, London.

Hi! I don't live in Cornwall (actually in the US), but I've spent a few years doing family research in this area. I have found a burial transcription from the Parish Records which varies a bit from the one you've got listed (which appears to be stating his death date and not the actual date of burial) --- so, here it is:

Day Month: 19-Jul
Year: 1863
Parish Or Reg District: Neot, St.
Forename: Matthew
Surname: CRAPP
Age: 88
Residence: Middle Lewarne
Notes: Old-age

I would say that it is very safe to assume that he was buried in the Parish churchyard which is the Church of St. Neot in St. Neot. You can contact the church through this link: http://www.achurchnearyou.com/st-neot-st-neot/
This is the CofE website, and I've had quite a lot of success in finding whether graves are still marked or not by contacting churches through these links. All you will need to do is send the same info that you've posted here, and they should be able to help you.

It does seem that there was/is a stone for your grandfather, as the following is coming up from data collected from Cornwall Memorial Inscriptions:

Help locating Cemetery - Possibly a grave marker photo

I just found burial information on my 3rd great grandfather and I could use some help locating this cemetery please. His name is Matthew Crapp, born 15 Feb 1778 in St Neot, Cornwall, England. Married, Mary Keast May 2, 1803 in St Neot, Cornwall. Died 14 Jul 1863.

The marriage took place in North Tamerton, which is very close to the Devon border.

John Crabb is listed as being "of this parish", which may or may not suggest he was born there.
However, there is a John Crabb baptised in North Tamerton in 1773...

Where does the birth date of 1777 come from? If correct, then John would have only been around 14 at the marriage, which would seem somewhat unusual.
Where does the Falmouth connection come from?

As the other respondent has mentioned, the 1841 census doesn't usually give much away in the way of places of birth - usually just whether they were born in the county or not.
By the way, Cornwall censuses between 1841 and 1891 are all available free of charge online via the Cornwall Online Census Project.

I am needing help ASAP!! I am looking for John Crabb(e) b. 1777 in Cornwall, England. He married Mary Cobbledick in 1791 and they had three children: Lydia, Thomas (who died in infancy), and Thomas, b. 1798. My cousin found a census which placed John Crabb (widower) in the home of Thomas Crabb in St Austell. The census said that John was "of Cardinham". There were Crabb families in Cardinham. We would like to prove that John Crabb was John Crabb of Falmouth who married Mary Cobbledick. I don't have access to English censuses, so please help!!

Hi, I saw your posts on the Eva family and thought I'd try to contact you as I have a link with the Eva family in truro and some photos of them about 1900. My grandfather married Minnie Eva, daughter of Joshua in truro and josh and my GF were in business together in Charles St. i can't throw any light on the bastardy papers but have you been in touch with the royal institution in Truro? It is above the museum and holds indexed copies of the west Briton, when I went there the curator was very helpful and may be able to search for you. i'd be interested in the Eva family around Truro at this time as it extends my own tree.

Hi. I am trying to verify the parents of an ancestor and a Blanche Landeryou may be the mother. The son is John Warren, 1783 to 1876. My research has shown the father maybe William, but I found at least two Williams and three possible brides.
John married twice. His first wife was Grace Bosence , they had three daughters before she died in 1820. He remarried, had several more children then emigrated to Australia where he died.

My GG grandfather William R. Richards was born in 1793-1847 He eventually settled in Salem West Virginia. He was also appointed to a delegation by His Majesty King Kamehameha lll in Hawaii to help resolve disputes concerning Hawaii's Independence. It wasn't mandatory to state deceased for the father on the marriage certificate. Glad it makes sense.
