I think Violet may be the daughter of Sarah BARTLAM nee PAYNE. She was born abt 1874, the daughter of William PAYNE. She married William BARTLAM in 1895 at St Philip and St James, Milton, Staffs.

In 1911, William PAYNE age 53, born Norton, Staffs, is with his family in Baddeley Edge, Leek, Staffs with his wife Fanny and 8 of their children. Also with them are 3 grandchildren, John William BARTRAM 5, Sarah Hilda PAYNE 1, and Fanny PAYNE 3 mths. Sarah was a servant elsewhere in 1901, married, but can't see her husband.

I think there was another child of William and Sarah BARTLAM, Arthur James who was born and died in 1898. I still cant find a birth for Violet. Maybe William had left Sarah and she had had an illegitimate child who was adopted out. Or maybe Sarah and her parents were unable to support all the children. In both the 1901 & 1911 censuses Violet's date of birth is abt 1900. This would fit perfectly with her mother's marriage in 1895 and brothers' births in 1896 & 1898. The brothers were born in Norton sub-district which is in Leek registration district. Violet's place of birth also agrees with the censuses.
