I am interested in possibly purchasing copies of some birth and death records for relatives who lived in Stockport. I did some research yesterday and found the births and deaths I am interested in on cheshirebmd, and then I moved my search to freebmd to locate reference numbers so that I could order some of them online.
One record has me confused. I was able to locate both a birth record and a death record on cheshirebmd for Patrick Murtaugh who was born (and died) in 1861. When I went to locate reference numbers on freebmd, I could only locate a death record for him, and no birth record is listed on that site.
I'm thinking he may have been a stillborn baby. Would a stillborn have been issued both a birth certificate and a death certificate? Or would there have been just one certificate covering both birth and death? If that's the case, why was I able to find both a birth and death listed on cheshirebmd? I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced something like this. Thanks for any help you can provide me!
