There was a reply I think from Laurie which answerd your question but appears to have been deleted. Your Samuel joined the army and died of disease in India from what I remember. if you did not see the reply before it was deleted (presumably because it breached the rules) then I suggest you contact Laurie directly. I would think that all you Ikins go back to a common ancestor probably called Samuel but whther there are sufficient surviving records to establish the think is the question. If the family was CoE you have a better chance than if they were non-conformist as happened in one of my families where you can see marriages and some baptisms but gaps because the non-conformist records were lost/destroyed by fire with no bcakcup like the Bishops Transcripts.
