Thanks Ell, I've seen that entry in the 1841 census and have checked the map but thought Sandbach was a bit out of the area that would be described as Chorley but I've kept the info for further reference.
Have emailed the library and will wait to see what happens there.
Went to the records office last year on our "trip of a lifetime" and looked at the Chester newspaper but didn't look for any others. We do have the trial sentance records, the gaol, records and the transportation records for James Jupp. Shame we can't find his family.
