Looking for information on a William Case, who was tried at the Cambridge Assizes in 1840 and given life. He was transported to Tasmania on the Asia (6) in 1841. Does anyone have him on their family tree, know anything about him at all or know whether finding out about his trial will give me any further information on him?

You do not give an indication of his date of birth, but assuming he was under 40 at the time of his trial and was born in Cambridgeshire , then he should appear on the Cambridge Baptism Index, 1801-1837, which is available on the Cambridge FHS website.
There are 3 William Cases on this site, 2 of which would have been under 10 years old in 1840 and therefore can be ignored. This leaves one baptised in 1824 at Holy Trinity Church, the son of William & Ann, they were living in Market Street, Cambridge at the time.

My William was born around 1810 as he was stated as being 34 years of age on his marriage certificate in 1844 in Sydney, NSW.

I don't know that this convict William Case is the right one, I am checking lots of different avenues at the moment as I have very little to go on.

Thanks for your information.

It doesn't look promising so far. William may not have been born in Cambridgeshire even though he was tried at the Cambridge Assizes. It was an avenue to pursue but I think I must keep my options open.

Thanks for your help.
