Please can any tell me if you know of a 'Fred Marsh' who might have been involved in horse racing with an Elias Marsh and his son Ramsay.
I have a. circa 1946 photograph, taken at Brighton races in which a family member who knew them both says Fred is featured along with Elias, a former miner at Roddymoor Colliery, near Crook, Co Durham. Crook and Ramsay, along with two other positivity unidentified men. One is probably their bookkeeper Billy Lead.
Try as I might, I have not been able to find a familial relationship between Elias or Ramsay and Fred, but, Ramsay was running the bookmakers business Fred Marsh & Son from at least 1963 along with his mother Lily nee Brown until abt. 1970 in Bucks/Berks.
Also, any information of where Ramsay went to school, assuming that he did, after he left Crook, Co Durham, age 12/13 abt 1936. Elias was living at, and, also had an office in William St Slough just after the second world war. It seems possible that Ramsay may have attended the Tonman Moseley school which was also in William Street before he applied to join the RAF at Oxford in sept 1942.
Also, I would like to learn more about Ramsay's uncle Sidney who apparently did well in demolition business that was related to Beeching cuts of the early 1960s.He died on 7th August, 1970, aged 57 and is buried in Crook cemetery.
