Surnames: STROYDE, Stride , GARRETT, CLEMPSON,
These are the names I am researching in Dudley/Netherton/W.Bromwich, Amblecote. Richard Stroyde grandson of Richard Stride m.Sarah Jane Garrett. Mother re-married Samuel Clempson who had properties in Netherton and Amblecote. Richard the younger changed his name to Stroyde-Clempson to gain inheritance. This is my mother's maiden name and she is the granddaughter of Richard the younger. Anyone have any connections. Stroyde believed Dudley pronunciation of Stride.

Many thanks for help from anyone.
Jane

Hi my name is Joanne, we have the Stroyd name in our family, I have been very confused with name Henry Stroyd b 1820 son of Richard Srtide and Hannah Parkes that of his parents and siblings being different. So it seems this might be down to dialect in the Black Country is the correct,

Thank you
Joanne

Joanne, you are correct, if you hear the Dudley dialect "I" is pronounced "oi" in all words of this nature. Richard Stride came from Hanbury and all his antecedents. Do you have Henry's marriage details to Martha ? by any chance? And did you know that Henry committed suicide?
