Hello:

I'm trying to determine the lineage of Robert HATHAWAY, husband of Dame Sybil Mary Collings Beaumont HATHAWAY of Sark.

It is noted he was born in New Jersey but no date given. He died in 1954, perhaps Sark?

Any information that might lead to his ancestry will be very much appreciated.

Ell,
I altered my original post to you, because I discovered that one of the public trees I was looking at seemed to be all wrong about Edmonton, Kentucky. It led me astray and no mistake: I was even looking at ships passenger lists.

Since then, I have seen the other trees that say Edmonton, London.

I tried looking up London Christenings & Baptisms and Marriages and I did find one Remfrey entry.

Mary Ann Remfrey married George Grove on 17th Apr 1865 at Lambeth St Mary the Less. Mary's father was Thomas Remfrey. George's father: Benjamin Grove.

I think Mary Ann Remfrey went to Australia, arriving Brisbane 23rd Sep 1885. However, I doubt if this info is any use to you - sorry.

Brian

Hello Brian

Many thanks for your findings & there does seem to be some coincidences here i.e

Elizabeth Remfrey Uren did die 18 Jun 1909 BUT in the Edmonton, Middlesex workhouse - her and James' address being 2a Brunswick road, Tottenham, Middx at that time so, nowhere near KY !

I do have the census info thank you (right thro) but cannot find a marriage which, I assume has to be in the CI as, James was "lodging" with the family there, prior to their 1st & consequent children

I do thank you for your time

kind regards
Ell

There is a census for 1851 and another for 1861 with Elizabeth and lots of other Remfreys living at Lower Common, Little Serk, Channel Islands.

On the 1861 census, she is unmarried, aged 23, born about 1838 at Sark.

Several family trees have James Uren & Elizabeth Remfrey on them. Perhaps when there was a birth or marriage, the Remfrey folk went into London to one of the large churches, and there may be records there.

Brian
I am sorry to say that I do not have the people that you mentioned in my tree, but my husband did have a cousin by the name of Arthur Baker who was born in Sark. His father also Arthur Baker, the
postmaster for Sark. Arthur was the son of my motherinlaw's sister.Arthur died in St.Peters Port, he was much older than my husband.Probably for this reason he called him Uncle Arthur. I don't know if I can be of any help to you, but please feel free to contact me. My email address is
ann@lemessurier .ca

He was my great uncle and I'm trying to find out more about him. I know he founded the Sark Electric Light & Power company after WW2 ended with war-surplus generators, that he was a very accomplished round-the world yachtsman and that he had a bank manager brother Frank who lived on the Isle of Man. Their father could have been Ernest Robson, another of my ancestors who all came from around Sale, Altrincham, Manchester areas. The last contact I had in the late 80's was from Malcolm's daughter Jennifer or Josephine Birch, who lived on Sark at that time. Any help would be most welcome. I'm David Robson, by the way. Thanks.

Jean LE BROCQ was the first tenant of Le Fort in Sark in 1565. His brother Pierre was tenant of Le Petit Dixcart. Pierre was a jurat of the first Sark Court appointed on 27 October 1579. Petit Dixcart was held by his family until 1788.

Le Fort stayed in the family until the death of Matthieu LE BROCQ in 1670. It then passed too Gedeon LE FEUVRE who was married to Sara LE BROCQ.

In 1625 Jean LE MASURIER the tenant of La Forge was drowned. That property passed to his brother Elie. Elie's daughter Marie then married Etienne LE BROCQ and it stayed in the family for the next 3 generations until in 1780 Marie LE BROCQ (daughter of Philippe) sold the property to Thomas de Carteret.

From 1732 till 1745 the Jaspellerie property was owned by Marie LE BROCQ who was the widow of the minister Pierre CAMON (minister from 1698-1722). She died in 1745.

As far as I know there are no LE BROCQS resident in Sark today.
Hi List,

I am looking for info on the descendants of the Le Brocqs that came to settle Sark with Helier Carteret, in the mid 1500's.
