Thanks for responding to my query. I also have quite a few Roberts from the Gaspe. I really think my Roberts were in NB as far back as late 1700s at least in the 1861 census they stated that their parents were born in NB. Interestingly, they were shown as French, of English origin and
belonging to the Church of England which would all fit in very nicely if they were from the Channel Islands.
The first record I have of the Roberts in Kent Co., NB is a wedding in the 1840s and I don't know yet where they were before settling in Kent Co.
There were Channel Islands families brought to northern NB and the Gaspe region by the Charles Robin Company. Are you familiar with this? I'm looking for someone who has any of the following books, especially the first one:
1. Here is another background book which will be valuable to the researcher who has an ancestor who worked for the Charles Robin Co. Without a doubt this company was the most influential in bringing Jerseymen and their families to
settle on the Gaspé coast of Quebec and in Northern New Brunswick. There is a
good index, an excellent bibliography and a family tree of Raulin Robin and
descendants.

about the roles the sons and daughters of the Channel Islands (Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney and
Sark) played in Canadian history. This book is a genealogical dictionary of these early settlers. This
printing is a reprint of the 1979 edition which includes corrections and additions. (1979) reprint,
589 pp., maps, illus., bibl., index, paper, $46.00 #ZT867
3. The Quiet Adventurers in North America - Marion G. Turk. The Channel Islands, primarily
Guernsey and Jersey, contributed greatly to the influx of immigrants to the American colonies and
the young United States. The bulk of this work is a genealogical dictionary which identifies
thousands of known (or probable) Channel Island immigrants to America, and some of their
descendants. One section gives brief sketches of well-known Americans who had Island roots.
This printing is a reprint of the 1984 edition with the addition of six pages of corrections and
additions. (1984) reprint, 724 pp., 1 vol. in 2, illus., paper, $54.00 #ZT864
Do you have the info on the other Roberts who were in the Gaspe region around this time and from the Channel Islands? If not, and you want it, let me know. I'll keep your response on file until I get more information.
Thanks again,
Elaine Murphy
