I'm trying to do a search on my ancestors who came from the Channel Islands to Australia. Two brothers left on the ship called the Walter Hood bound for Australia. The ship left England around 1854.The christian names of the two brothers were James and Daniel. The third brother left for Australia a few years after their departure and his name was Henri. They landed in Sydney.

I would appreciate any help in tracking this line down.I'm of the opinion the surname of Bougoure may have been a different spelling back in the old country.

Thankyou
John Bougoure

Hi, I know it has been a long time since you first posted to this site, but I have a good amount of descendancy and some ancestry of the Bougoure family from a ten page document given to me. I am a descendant of John Nicholas Bougoure and have seen a few differnet spellings also, regards Sharyn.

Hi Sharyn,
The lastest information I received is 3 brothers and two sisters came out from Guernsey to settle in Australia. Initially, Daniel and James came out in the 1850's on the schooner the "Walter Hood".They landed in Sydney and went to work on a cattle station run by the Gore family at Tara in Queensland. I found the passenger list of the Walter Hood and the surname was spelt "Bougourd" not Bougoure. I reserched this namne and it seems to be the correct spelling. The other Brother (Henri, my great grandfather) and two sisters came out to Brisbane around the 1860's and also went to Gore station.I believe the two sisters were married and husbands obviously came with them.Sharyn do you have anymore information on the family in Guernsey and whether or not the family name came from France originally?

Regards
John Bougoure

Hello Sharyn,,My name is Kerryn Bougoure-Latchford, I am the second daughter of Garnet Bougoure (Qld) his father Alfred Bougoure, and his father was Daniel James Bougoure.

I have just recently initiated a family search, something I have wanted to do for a long time especially as our family name has always stirred curiosity with people all my life. My father only had three daughters, this being the reason we have double-barreled the surname. Also my pride in having such a lovely surname.

I have been engrossed in the information that I have come across with the help of people like yourself having done all the hard work.

Should any new information be uncovered prior to Daniel and James leaving for Australia, I would be so very interested.

Many thinks for posting your resources.

Kerryn Bougoure-Latchford.

There is a chance that the Bougourd were Huguenot refugees..as my family tree seems to begin around the times of the refugee situation late 1600's ..and also that they all originally seemed to have lived in the Vale and St.Sampsons parish which were where many of the new arrivals first lived
