Looking for Gerald McEllistrim or McIllistrim later Gerald Montrio

Could anyone help me with some information?
I'm looking for information about Gerald McEllistrim. It seems he was born at Cardiff, Wales, England on Dec 21st 1908, but some papers point he was Irish.
His parents names were John McEllistrim + Julia (but she's not sure). Gerald was a merchant navy seaman and he travelled around the world. On April 1936 he asked for American Naturalization and on the papers of petition says that his name was "Gerald Montrio (formerly Gerald McEllistrim or Gerald McEllistrim Brooks). It's a mistery the reason for which he changed his paternal name McEllistrim to Montrio.
He married in USA with an Argentinian woman and had 2 children a boy (called Gerald like him) and a girl. His children brought the adopted name Montrio.
His son Gerald dissappeared with a friend (they both had 15 and 13 years old) and never had been found. Now this story is a cold case recently reopened and published in the NAMUs data base.
His daughter says her father never told them about his origins, his family. She knows very little about his father.
Why he changed his family name?

Hello,

Many thanks for your speedy reply. From my knowledge Josheph Hutchings and his family worked for the Blakes of Somerset living in Bridge nr South Petherton. I know from Joseph's Marriagge certificate to Emma Belcher that there is also a George Hutchings listed as a witness. Would your records show if George also travelled to the islands at the same time as Joseph?.
I am also intrigued as to your information source. Is this available on-line?.

With many thanks, Andrew

I have been searching for such information for a while. What evidence do you have for the date of 1874 ?. I note that John also asked if you have any other info regarding the departure dates, do you have such information.
I would appreciate any information that you could supply.
BR Andrew

I have Maria Edmonds who married Robert Belcher but I do not seem to have anyone around that time who had a second spouse / half sister.
Hi, I am glad that you got the information you wanted. I bet it was John Baker who got in touch. He is a close relative of these brothers. I am researching on behalf of my husband who is related through Eliza Edmonds, a half sister of Maria Belcher, nee Edmonds. Eliza is Peter's great grandmother.I know quite a bit about this branch of the family if it were of interest to you, though it may be a bit remote. Most of the photos though come from John Baker. One of William and Ann Edmonds' children went to Australia and another to Canada in the 1800s, we came to Canada in the 1900s. I have lost track of two of the siblings, they may have gone to South Africa. Nice to hear from you. Best wishes, June

Somehow he knew a great deal about my Aunts and sent me photographs that neither my sister nor I had ever seen before. Are you related in anyway to my ancestors. After James died there his widow and their younger children came to the United States in 1852 and settled in Elmira, Stark County, Illinois. Many of their descendants remain in that area.

Dixon Smith
Novato, California, U.S.A.

Thank you! India Marie's father was born in England and came to the Falklands in 1846, although we're not sure if he came directly from England. He wrote about life with his wife and young daughter in the Falklands in his diaries, which we have. however, we may be mistaken about the date of her birth, and there's also a possibility she was born elsewhere. So far, we've been unable to find her anywhere! if you have any more ideas, please let me know! thanks again for your reply

Hello Orjan, I am so sorry not to have responded sooner. The family tree is something that I dip in and out of. I find it quite addictive so have to restrict myself! I would be very interested and grateful for a copy of your article. I have photos of the family but don't know too much about our swedish roots. My email is
sophialboucher@gmail.com

I look forward to hearing from you,

Sophia Boucher

I am looking for information/genealogy about two brothers:
1) John Howard HUTCHINGS born 27 October 1892 in the Falkland Islands who married Margaret Mary ROBB.
2) His brother Frederick Robert HUTCHINGS, born 18th March 1897 in Winkfield, Berkshire. He married Margaret's sister, Hannah ROBB.
Clearly the family must have left the Islands between 1892 and 1897. I have found no other rcords of the Hutchings family so any information would be gratefully received.

Brian,

Thanks for the info. I had some of the trips but not all. The 1909 trip shows he went out for a season there before returning to Scotland in 1910. He later went out for good in 1910 with his two brothers.

A Boer War veteran of the Black Watch, he came back to Scotland and served with the Cameronians if the First War and was invalided back to the Falklands in 1917.

The archive in the Falkands has been very helpful and they may have info on your forbears.

Good luck and thanks

Bruce

Hi Beavis,
I am not related to your tree, but I have a distant relative who went to the Falklands, so I tried looking for some ship's voyages made by Donald Stuart McPhee. (I looked at your public tree to see what you had first).
...Regarding the 1935 voyage to Southampton, the name of the ship was ARLANZA, he was aged 57, and he was heading for: The Laigh, Huntingtower, Perth.

Now, there are earlier journeys by a Donald McPhee on the OROPESA from Liverpool to Port Stanley in 1909; on the ORAVIA from Liverpool to Port Stanley in 1910; and from Liverpool to Port Stanley on ORITA in 1917 ... but he is a shepherd at this time. Is this the same man?

Also, there is a Donald McPhee aged 31; Alexander aged 25; and Angus aged 20 ... all on ORAVIA leaving Liverpool on 17 Oct 1912. They all seem to be farm hands.

Are they part of your McPhee forebears? Is any of this new to you ... I doubt if it is!

Brian, Glasgow.

P.S. I know from your tree that Donald died in Australia, so I tried to find a voyage for him anytime after 1935, but to my surprise it didn't come up.
P.P.S. The name of my distant relative in the Falklands was Greenshields. He was a farmer and after a while, he moved on the South America. He and a friend whose second name was Douglas were apparently responsible for setting up the the place called DOUGLAS STATION on the Falklands. One of the Greenshields drowned while out there, and must be buried somewhere there.
