I know a women by the name Phi whom was born in Viet Nam on 11/20/1970. I think her adopted name was given as lethi bich lan. She remembers meeting her father at the orphanae when she was about 12. We call her Lucy, and she is looking to find her birth Father, Step Mom and believes a younger brother. Phi or Lucy's father was in the service. Don't know what branch. Also, Lucy states her father took her to church with him. She wished that she came back to the USA with her father then.
If this sounds like this could be your daughter, please email me at weddle257@aol.com

Hello,
I am researching my family tree and am having trouble finding family members. My family has been in Vietnam for a very long time but my grandparents were born in China. My father does not know where in China but he knows they were born in China. My grandmother's name is Tu, Muoi Tat. My grandfather's name is Tu, Muoi. I asked if they ever had a name change and my father said no. As far as I am concerned, they have 8 children together. Two out of eight children are no longer living along with my grandfather who died sometime in the 2000s ( while I was in High School ). I know that my grandmother is still living in Vietnam.

On the other hand, my mother was a child of the Vietnam war. Her father was an american soldier while her mother was a nurse. My mother doesn't know anything about her birth parents.

Please reply with any information that you may have.

Thank you so much !

Em Tu

Reunite adoptees with birth parents

My wife and I are in touch with many adoptees who are very interested in reuniting with their birth parents.

Many only know the name they were given at the orphanage and cannot be certain if their birth mother had the same family name.

Also, many do not know their actual date of birth, but have an approximate date -- estimated by the orphanage workers.

Some have been told stories of what area they came from, but they may not be able to trust all of the paperwork because of the chaos at the end of the war.

To add to the complexity, many believe that their birth parents may have left Vietnam at the end of the war.

If anybody has had any success in locating their family under these difficult circumstances, please share what worked for you (how you were able to make the connection).

Thank you.

Also, if anybody has any information on a girl at Hoi Duc Anh (orphanage) who was born sometime around Sep 1971, please reply. Her paperwork shows the name "Duong Thi Kimlan", although this may not have been her real name.

I welcome any and all replies.

I am looking for family of my mother. I believe her name is Thien Thi Nguyen. She married my father after the Vietnam war and came over to the u.s. She changed her name to Candy Thien Kim Hicks. I believe she also had a sister that lived in the u.s. possibly in Arizona. I don't know much about her or her family and I am looking to find some information on her background. If anyone has any information that can possibly help me I would greatly appreciate it. Her Birthday was Dec. 12, 1951 if that helps.

In the 1880s and up til 1904, my grandmother's brother Jules d'Abbadie was a businessman (French) in "Tonkin/Tonquin" near Haiphong. From 1886 until 1888, his sister Lili, my grandmother, lived there with him. She subsequently wrote a book about Tonkin called Home of the Dragon, A Tonquinese Idyll. Jules died there in 1904. I don't know the exact date nor where he was buried. Is there information available for a French colonial cemetery in that area? Thank you for any help.

Judy Rebbeck Watten
northern California

Very interesting?!?

When I see my Vietnamese friends this week I'll be sure to ask them.

Never thought to ask Mexicans, Central Latinos, or South Americans if there are distinct accents that determines what part of the land their people dwell from. I will have to ask my espanol neighbors.

Alot of times, people say, "I'm American first." And you knew to move on with the conversation.

I'll have to ask my Chinese teacher about Mandarin or Cantonese accents. Will knowing or hearing one dialect from the other help to determine which group of people to avoid or be friends with?

Interesting...

Need help with PTSD

Lai Khe Vietnam from 1967 to 1968

I'm writing on this message board because I am in need of some proof of some things that took place while I was in Vietnam. during my time in Vietnam, many things I saw seems to have stuck with me in more ways then one and it is effecting my emotions as well as other things. I am presently on disability for several things and my doctor and I are working to get my disability to include PTSD. To do this I need to get letters from others who know of the same things I am talking about. One thing is about a place I saw that has stuck with me even today. While I was in Lai Khe Vietnam there was a place that was known as "the Ice Box". I don't know what the real name for it is though. It was the place where they kept the bodies of dead American servicemen who died in Vietnam until they could be shipped back to the United States. I was fairly knew in Vietnam at that time and when I looked in some of the trucks parked there, I saw many dead Americans piled on top of each other. It was hard for me to take especially since it was the first time I ever saw a dead soldier and saw so many all at one time. This is just one thing I saw in Vietnam that has stuck with me. I would like to be able to talk to you on the phone as soon as we can. If you would please call me you can use my toll free number and we can talk. My number is 1-877-571-4294 or you can call 1-920-487-5695. It would be nice to talk to someone who was in Vietnam when I was and I really could use your help is this matter. If you do call, I can explain things better to you. I'm not much for writing letters and the phone is a much better place to talk anyway.

Please do call me. As I said, this is very important to me and if there is ever anything I can do or say for you, all you have to do is ask.

Nancy,
It's not that the surname is not used anymore, it just wasn't common to begin with. Since I'm Chinese and Vietnamese, there are many Chinese with the same pronunciation, but not many Vietnamese.

I have family all over the world since we left Vietnam in the 70's. I'm still finding out about them. Majority of my family is in Virginia or Hawaii. There are Tiet's in Australia!

Don't know if I've helped....good luck,

Quan

My Dad Ken died in car accident in Vietnam

My name is Joann.
In 1967-8 my mother and father were in Vietnam. My mother was 2 months pregnant with me. They were in a car accident together in which my father was killed and my mother was seriously injured.
Today I only have a picture of my father and believe his name was Ken. His last name may begin with an "S".
I am trying to find out where my father is buried and seeking any information about him.
My mother told me that he was a service man in the war and was originally from England. It seems that my father may have already been married to a woman in England because he once received a picture from his wife which included their 2 sons.
She also tells me that he was about 37-8 years old when he died, so I figure he was born around 1930.

If anyone has any information that could help me... please respond.

Gratefully,
Joann
