Served from 61' through 63' reporting to Adms. writer YNC Vordenbaum, Vadm Smoot' writer. Adm Smoot was relieved by Vadm C L Melson who'w writer was YNCS Marvin Childers. The Aide for VADM Smoot was a mustang LCDR Hollingsworth. The Adie for VADM Melson was LCDR C T Hansen who would later retire as a VADM himself. I left the Island in Oct. 1963 to attend MMA school under a rate change program offered by the Navy. VADM Melson approved my request chit for that and was a great supporter of mine. Completed MMA and later USN Nuclear Power School Bainbride/West Milton NY. Plank Owner, USS TRUXTUN DLG(N) 35. Left the Navy in July 1969 as an MM1 Nuclear Qualified Surface. Been back to Taipee, Taichung, Kaoshung and Keelung (sp?) over many years during my work life with a large pump company. It's of course changed considerably. Club 63 is now the very expensive American Club. The old Linku and Officer Clubs status are unknown and of course the old FRA club is gone with the wind. Regards

hi Leandra,

i searched google and found only these 2 OBGY clinic in Tainan. You probably could start calling them to see if they have any baby born at your b-day, then find your birth mom. I think the street names should stay the same as 1981, so it ought to be easier to locate her. Problem may be 1. to get clinc releases info to you, 2. to get in touch with her. Tainan is a small city, it is hundreds of years old but not as big as Taipei.

葉能貴婦產科診所/台南市東區崇明路91號/(06)-2696947
葉婦產科診所/台南市中西區忠義路二段53號/(06)-2220265
Searching for birth mother from Taiwan / birth father from America

I was born on July 8, 1981 at Yeh's Hospital of Gynecology and Obstetrics in Tainan, Taiwan. My name at birth was Chu Li Fung (Fung Chu Li). My mother was 23 y/o and worked as an accountant and bartender. My father was an American who was stationed in Taiwan as an employee of the airline company, Air America. My mother approached my adoptive father Richard Jordan, at that time an employee of a semi-conductor company, and his wife, Loretta Jordan (a housewife) about adopting her "friend's" child. Only on the day of the actual adoption was it revealed in court that she was my mother. I beleive that she may have had two or three sisters. According to my birth certificate, her name is Ying Hua Fung and her birthdate is 12/15/1957. Her father's name is Ching Fu Fung (Fung Ching Fu)and was supposedly an attorney at the time. Because of all the controversy attached to unwed mothers in the 1980's, my parents paid to have my name removed from her family register. I was also featured in an expose at the time about "black market babies" (although I was adopted legally), and her name was mentioned as well. I know nothing of my natural father- not even his name. On my birth certificate it states him as "unknown"

I will attach a copy of my birth certificate and adoption certificate when I get a chance. Maybe this will help?

Please if you can help me- I would greatly appreciate it!

<3 Leandra Jordan

If you have his address in Taipei, the police in Taiwan may be able to locate his famiy.

Since he has other family members in China, it also possible that he had already reconnected with them. My father-in-law was one of such when Taiwan goverment recognized the regime of communist China in late 80's.

If my calculation is right, he should be at least 78 years old today.( assuming he came to Taiwan with KMT when he was age 16 which was 1949.)

Good luck.

Timothy Chang

I am looking for an old friend. We were penpals in the 1960's. He lived in Taipai, was married, and last I heard had one son. He was a school teacher, teaching English classes. He was my mother's and then my penpal. We called him Johnny. I may have have spelled his Chinese name correctly. He left China when he was 16 years old with the help of an uncle. His parents remained behind in China. If anyone in Taiwan knows of a way to search for my old friend, I would appreciate an email.

I know it's a long shot, but I've been thinking about him recently and would like to know that he and his family are okay.

Judy Cowsert Stevens

I wish it could be so easy just to find my distant relatives in Taiwan and elsewhere. I am also a Huang but i know almost nothing. I have a family book with my father's lineage but I don't know how far it goes back after his grandfather's generation. My father was born in Hsinchu, Taiwan. It was the same place both his parents were born but I've never been there. I am desperate to get my family lineage down as my father's lineage book does not contain the names of women who marry into the family, and neither documents the birth of females in the family nor the children they have whether they be boys or girls. My grandmother's surname was Li/Lee however you spell it. I still have known relatives residing in Taiwan but outside my father's generation i do not know the rest before his generation. this is so hard! not only because the romanization of chinese names are not the same if the name written in romanization and when actually written in chinese they look like separate names with nothing in common except the surname. can we trade information or discuss?

Since my grandfather passed away last October, I've had an itch to know who I am.

My dad's side of the family is from Fuzhou, Fujian, and my grandfather was a shoemaker name Lien Ko Feng (spelling?) that imigrated to Taiwan, where I believe he had a restaurant, then a shoe store, and passed away last year at around 80. I am not sure as to where he met my grandmother(mainland or taiwan), but she was a Chen, but had been adopted. She is currently about 71. I remember hearing when I was younger that the Lien Clan of Fuzhou was somehow associate with the Oyan(oyang?) Clan.

My mother's side of the family is from Taiwan, my maternal grandfather's last name was Chan(Zhan) and my grandmother's maiden name was Chung(Zhong, Jung) and either or both was Hakka. my grandfather passed away in 1988 and my grandmother was a teacher in thailand and japan until she retired back to Taiwan. she is around 77?

Any kind of information would be helpful!! thank you!

I am searching for descendants of Chinese-American children born in Hong Kong in the 1880's. Annie Benning, Thomas, George and others were the children of Augustus and Thomas Theodore Benning of Georgia, USA. Gus and Thomas Theodore Benning were ship's captains in China in the mid to late 19th century. After his brother died, Gus returned to Georgia and married his cousin. The children remained in China and were boarded at a Church School. One child, Annie Benning became a nurse and eventually moved to Formosa. Any children she had could still be alive. Her brother Thomas did come to the USA in the 1930's. I would like to hear from descendants of any Benning children mentioned above.
