Surnames: ORCHARD, DAVIDSON
Hello Keith,
I hope you are still researching your Orchard family in Ceylon.
I have just learned that a William Orchard was a sponsor at the baptism of my ancestor, Andrew Alexander Davidson on 17 Aug 1823 at St Pauls Church, Pettah, Colombo.
This was the child of Andrew and Martha Davidson. Andrew was a private soldier in the 83rd Regiment of Foot at that time. He transferred from the 73rd Regiment of foot at Colombo, in 1821.
This means that William Orchard was probably a fellow soldier, in one or both of these regiments.

Do you know yet if William is in your family line?

Do let me know, because I may be able to help with your next stage of research.

Hope to hear from you
Julian Lovegrove
