Wilhelm Henry Kroll was born in 1854 in "Germany". His daughter, Pauline/a Kroll was born in 1881 supposedly "in Kongisberg/Koengisberg on the German/Polish border" (but which also might have been Koneberg or Kananberg/Kannanberg, Ukraine).

Wilhelm's first wife, was Matilda or Emilie Sonnenberg, though I have no idea when or where she was born.

I was going back over the 1930 Census looking at Wilhelm Kroll (and his 2nd wife Julianna)'s neighbors in Long Beach, Washington, and I noticed that the census-taker tried cramping another word (I'm pretty sure a city) into the location boxes. I think there is Insterburg above Germany in Wilhelm´s line.

What I'm getting at is that all of the records that I think I'm looking for would currently be administrated in Russia, in Kaliningrad (formerly Konigsburg) or Chernyakhovsk (formerly Insterburg) but I have no idea how I would go about researching this. Any ideas?

P.S. These Krolls eventually ended up in WA, and I have no evidence of relation to the Krolls that were in SD.
