My grandmother's godmother was Melanie Petrovna. My grandmother, Maria Kuzminichna Poluhina, was from the village Verkh-Kuli, south of Lake Baikal - the nearest city was Chita. My grandmother's father's name was Kuzma (Kuzmos, Kozma, depending on the Anglicized spelling) Anfinogenovich Poluhin. She had two sisters, Frosia (Efrosenia) Ovchinnikova, and Vasilisa (Vasia) Shadrina. The Archdeacon who baptized my grandmother was Yohan (John) Shadrin. They were all Old Believers (White Russians). Perhaps there is some relation between us.
