An ancestor, in her naturalization application filed in 1910, listed the birthplace of her late husband as
Sagarn, Russia. He (Solomon David Hoffmann) was born there in 1842. I cannot find any atlas that lists a place called Sagarn (or perhaps Zagarn) in Russia. Does anyone know? The family is known to have lived in Moscow in the last half of the 19th Century. Could this be a suburb/outlying community?
Could there have been a name change since the 1840s?
Could it be a region near Moscow? Or what? Can anyone help with this Russian geography problem? Thanks. --don--
