Hi Diana

No James died in Phuket (I think) and was buried in Penang in 1808. I have a feeling that George may be one of James' sons or a grandson and that he was born in Penang. There were very few Europeans on the island at this time and even fewer European women so it appears that all of James' partners were Eurasian or native. I assume you have found the family connection with Sir Walter Scott.
I have one of JT Thomson's books on my shelf as it mentions James's son William who spent most of his life in Singapore.

Cheers
Jan
