Hi Susan
Yes, Edith was quite beautiful. Story has it that my gf and two fellow teachers married the three most beautiful local girls!!!!
I have a theory re our McINTYRE roots but not enough info to be certain. Will send an e-mail with what I think but don't want to post it in case I'm wrong. We also tie into the STEWARTs, via Jane Alice's family. We go back in Penang to the late 1700s.
It would be wonderful to research in Penang. A lot of my info is from the Singapore library, them the online newspapers. The early Singapore/Straits Settlements directories were helpful but I have little after 1881, which would be of great help. I don't have much in the way of church records, which also would be key....
I started my research with the Penang Free School since I knew my ggf, William HAMILTON, taught there. They invited me to view their archives but I am across the world in Canada. My gf, William and his brother, Pat, immigrated to Canada about 1924. His brother, Fred, worked internationally, based out of London. His two younger sisters, Mary and Edith, stayed in the UK.
Some of the critical clues came from the "Who's Who in Malaysia" listing for my ggf, William. If J W ECKERSALL is listed, it would shed a lot of light. I do know JW ties back to England.
Will send you an e-mail with more particulars.
Jill
