Hello - I am not sure whether you still check this post, but I might have some additional info for you. My grandfather was a US Marine and fought in the Pacific Theater during WWII. Several years ago, I found a Japanese prayer flag from a private first class Shinzo Furuya among his belongings from the war. Since then, I've been trying to track down any remaining family members so that I may return the flag to it's rightful owner. Today, I received a letter from the War Victim's Relief office in Tokyo, Japan. They have found the son of Shinzo Furuya and he lives in Yamanashi Prefecture. I thought I remembered seeing that town mentioned somewhere among the other replies to your post. I doubt my Shinzo Furuya is the same as yours - unless he was in his late 50's during the war...but maybe they are related?

If you are still checking this and are still looking for information, I would gladly share all that I have. Since I have not yet made contact with the son, I do not want to publish his name or address without his permission.

How do you find out information from Japan on a family?

I know that my husband's grandfather is Arthur Sato.

His father's name is something like Masao or Masozo Sato born about 1865 and lived in NY. We were told by many family members that Masao(?) was from a royal or noble family but that's all they knew.
He came over here in the 1890's but have not found the record yet. He did own a large piece of land in NY when he settled here, but lost it somehow to the state.
A friend that is from China said that the first name can actually give you the town of origin and then the house, but I would like to find out everything I can: his ancestors, his correct spelling, if there is a crest, any siblings, etc. If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it.

1910 census http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=1910USCenIndex...

1920 Census http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=1920usfedcen&a......
Hello Gerald,
I was searching for the exact date of my father's death and came across your posting.Your letter was dated 5/15/2002, so it's been a while. However, I decided to see if I can get a response. My parents are both deceased, but I recall my mom saying that all the men in my father's family had names that ended with "zo". My dad's name was Matazo Furuya, and he was also born in Yamanashi-ken, Japan. He was born in 1889, which was in the same decade as your grandfather (Shinzo Furuya). What is also a coincidence is that my father would dress up as a kabuki dancer and perform locally in the labor camp where we lived. I'm wondering if we are related--there are too many similarities to dismiss. We know nothing outside of the info mentioned in this posting. Thanks, Rose

I am looking for any information about the family ancestors and history of Masuzo and Ichi Hagita in Tokyo or Chiba. Their children are Hagima, Minoru, Mariko, Tokie, and a half-brother Kurando. I'm a friend of Tokie (Hagita) Spitz. She married Jim Spitz an American Army soldier after WWII. I have some information that Masuzo Hagita was an engineer and may have been an inventor of a pump. I know the family left Tokyo and moved to Chiba during or after WWII, and that they have a family burial plot there, but I'm not sure of the exact location. Please contact me with any information you may have regarding this family, and how I may contact any living relatives. I live in California in the United States, and my email is: it3fittro@yahoo.com. Thank you. Gary

FURUYA or MURAKAMI Family in U.S.A.

Hello Chiaki
My name is Gerald Yukio Collins. My Grandfathers (Jichan) name was FURUYA, SHINZO (1880 - 1966) from Yamanashi. His father was a fire chief or police about 1890 in Yamanashi I do not no what part.
Bachans surname was MURAKAMI, HISAKO.
They left Japan about 1910 and Jichian only went back one time in 1952 he lived in Hawaii at that time.
In the 1920's they had a kabuki troupe, traveled the USA and Australia. HISAKO is buried in UTAH, USA she fell into a orchestra pit.
I was born in 1956 in the USA and nobody in Japan knows I was born. My son and I am coming to Japan to find family. If you could help me please I would be grateful.
Other names in my family (mother, sister and cousins...) are mother TAMAKO, Helen / aunt SUZUKO, Grace /uncle MASAO, William all FURUYA only Suzuko is living she is 81 years old.
Jichian and bachan were theater people, Jichan was a swords man. And Bachan was kidnapped as a child from the MURAKAMI family.
This has been a challenge to get any information from here. Please spread the word to the Furuya family seeing as I will be in Yamanashi in July.

Sincerely, Gerald Yukio Collins

NAKAGOMI/NAKAGOME

When my grandparents came from Japan, Brazilian government registered them as NAKAGOME, but we think that the correct romaji for our name is NAKAGOMI. I have lost contact with our relatives for some years and I am looking for them in order to restablish contact.
By the way the father of my grandfather was HASEBE and not NAKAGOMI (he changed his name because his wife was the last of her family), so I would like to track down this other derivation of our family.
