Researching my wife's Japanese genealogy and I received the kosekis of Ishida and Ito clans with a few mentions of allied families' surnames such as Kawamura (on Ishida's side) , Morita (on Ito's side). Ishida and Ito clans lived in Iwakuna City, Yamaguchi Prefecture - the Ishidas were exiled to this prefecture by Tokugawa sometime after 1600, according to the oral traditions of my wife's mother. Though the kosekis were translated into English which was enough to glean more information, however, there had to be more information, i.e. my wife was told by her mother that she saw an "ancient scroll" showing the Ishida line dating back to 11th century. The question is: where can I find that kind of information on the Ishida clan since my wife or I can't read Japanese. Regarding the Ito clan, I know it is a common surname in Japan, yet this particular Ito clan was politically powerful family in pre-WWII Japan, i.e. Hirobumi Ito, the first prime minister of democratic Japan during the Meiji Era belonged to this Ito clan. Again, where can I find that kind of information? I need some guidelines where to find the information other than the kosekis we already received... Hope someone can help me... Thank you.
