Temple locations are located on the Diddlefinger mapping site. If you have not been on the site, it has address lookups in english on a finely detailed Japanese map. The temples are noted by swastika symbols, and all but the smallest temples have an english and japanese character name. Unless you know which temple they attended, you must visit each temple.

I have not seen temple records.

If you have any Hisa... Wada in your line, please get in touch.

I was just casually browsing the forums, and noticed your post.

If your family was here during the 40's and lived on the West coast the National Archives may have records to help you sort out your paternal grandmother's maiden name. I found records with names of great grandparents, and other relations living in Japan, on records from the war relocation authority [WRA] which documented the governments removal of Japanese American's, and their Issei parents to concentrations camps. Each individual will have a record with family number. Also, check for immigration records. They have a new way of doing that these day's. Just do an internet search for uscis genealogy...

My sister-in-law, Yoshiko Okura, was married to Thomas Wesley Williams. They lived on a farm in Byron Center, Michigan, USA. They were married March 4, 1952 in Toyko, Japan, when Tom was in the Air Force. Yoshiko was twenty-five when they were married. Unfortunately Yoshiko has died, but I have many photos of her. I wish that I knew more of her family history. I do know that she was born in Oita Ken, Japan and that she had four younger brothers and three younger sisters. Yoshiko and one younger brother were the product of Yoshiko's mother's first marriage. Yoshiko's father died when she was eight years old Her mother remarried when Yoshiko was thirteen. Her new father was an executive in a shipbuilding factory in the sea town of Kuzuha.

I don't think they need to understand English in every day life. So there is nobody in their office who can really understand English and that's why you never hear from them.

I recommend to forget that idea.

How do you find out information from Japan on a family?

I know that my husband's grandfather is Arthur Sato.

His father's name is something like Masao or Masozo Sato born about 1865 and lived in NY. We were told by many family members that Masao(?) was from a royal or noble family but that's all they knew.
He came over here in the 1890's but have not found the record yet. He did own a large piece of land in NY when he settled here, but lost it somehow to the state.
A friend that is from China said that the first name can actually give you the town of origin and then the house, but I would like to find out everything I can: his ancestors, his correct spelling, if there is a crest, any siblings, etc. If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it.

1910 census http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=1910USCenIndex...

1920 Census http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=1920usfedcen&a......
Looking for my Japanese grandfather Shiraishi Choujirou 白石長次郎

Hello. Does anyone know how to look up records of Japanese military men who were in China in the early 1940's? My Japanese grandfather met and married my Chinese grandmother while he was in China in the early 1940's (before 1943). Somehow they got separated during the war and never found each other again. Where can I look up the record of Japanese men who went to China during World War 2? I would like to find my grandfather or at least find out where in Japan was he originally from. Thank you.

Hello Naomi,

I was searching these message boards for information about Grandpa Harry and I found your post (which is now 4 years old). Your post clarified some questions I had about his origins and where to look.

Please keep in touch with me and let me know if you find anything. I will do the same.

Unity

My wife's uncle married into the Tsuji family of Wabuka, Wakayama, Japan-a town on the southern coast of Wakayama. His surname was Morishita, but as per Japanese custom, he took his wife's family name as she had no male siblings. Her Tsuji parents are still alive and in their eighties.

Asaji Nakahama has been confirmed to have died in California on May 13, 1932. Osuma (Ryono) Nakahama is thought to have returned to Japan with her daughter, Hisako Nakahama, after they were released from Tule Lake Relocation Center in February 1946. She possibly died between 1946 and 1953. Would like to talk with anyone who might know this family.

Hi -

I have found that the family crests (kamon) may be different depending upon where your Sato family originated. Unfortunately, this is a very common name. I have found that there are places that will actually find your family crest if you know this information, but they generally charge a good fee.

If your family is from my grandmother's region, my niece is now in Japan and may be able to help us.

His name was Shosaburo Matsuhiro but I believe that Matsuhiro was his mother's maiden name. I have quite a large family but I'm very interested in finding out more about my ancestry. My father was Keiji Matsuhiro and he was born in the United States. My grandmother's name was Hisaye but I'm not sure of her maiden name. I'm also looking for information on my mother's side. Here father's name was Kamakichi Yui. If you have any information I would be greatly appreciative. Thank You. Jill
