I'm looking for any information or information sources (online censuses, etc.) regarding my great-grandmother Kozue Ohira. She was born in 1904 and died in 1995. She lived in Shimabara. Kozue had two husbands, Takahashi and Ishikawa, and lived in Manchuria during the Japanese occupation. I'm not sure why she was in Manchuria and I'd love to find out.

Curious, but do you know what part of Japan he may be from? My mother's maiden name is Sato. She is from Kyushu. I believe most of her family is either from Nagasaki or Sasebo area (both her mom and dad side).
My Great Grandmother was Chizu Nogami, married Shuichi Nagashima. They had two children: Kenichi and Emiko. Kenichi took his father's surname when Chizu passed away. I can't remember my Grandfather's first name, but it starts with an "M". Sato is his last name.

Hello,

I realize this thread is a few years old now, but hopefully I might have a piece of the puzzle you are trying to solve. My grandmother was Kikue Omine Cuthbert, and I believe her family came from Okinawa. I have a picture of her in my wallet that was taken in Hawaii, where I believe a lot of the Omine family that I am a descendant of settled. On the back she wrote, "With all my love to Fumi, Sis Kikue - Waimea Valley 1/6/44"

I know she had sisters named Sally, Myrtle, and Elsie and a few brothers, one of which was named Harry. Hopefully we can figure this out together. Who knows, maybe we are even related!

Cheers,

Ryan Cuthbert

How do you find out information from Japan on a family?

I know that my husband's grandfather is Arthur Sato.

His father's name is something like Masao or Masozo Sato born about 1865 and lived in NY. We were told by many family members that Masao(?) was from a royal or noble family but that's all they knew.
He came over here in the 1890's but have not found the record yet. He did own a large piece of land in NY when he settled here, but lost it somehow to the state.
A friend that is from China said that the first name can actually give you the town of origin and then the house, but I would like to find out everything I can: his ancestors, his correct spelling, if there is a crest, any siblings, etc. If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it.

1910 census http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=1910USCenIndex...

1920 Census http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=1920usfedcen&a......
hello I am trying to find out about my Japanese heritage. Here is what I have so far:
My grandmother was born in Singapore in 1928. She was #8 out of 8 kids. There were 4 boys and 4 girls. My great grandmother’s name was Kano and her husband’s name, (my great grandfather), was Zenzo Ohira. Their last name They lived in Singapore until my grandma was about 14 – then they moved to Nagasaki, Japan. My great grandfather died when my mom was about 17 (?) from asthma. My grandmother didn’t remarry. When they lived in Singapore I think my grandmother ran a hotel. She died in her early 80’s. She had 8 children.

thank you to anybody who can help.

My Japanese grandfather met and married my Chinese grandmother while he was in China in the early 1940's (before 1943). Somehow they got separated during the war and never found each other again. Where can I look up the record of Japanese men who went to China during World War 2? I would like to find my grandfather or at least find out where in Japan was he originally from. Thank you.

A distant cousin provided a cabinet photo of three men in what appear to be some type of uniforms, but they do not appear to be military uniforms. The belt buckle on the middle man clearly says "US".

Were there American "expeditions" in the late 1800s or 1900s like missions or humanitarian missions? Any insight into this would REALLY be appreciated! I'm attaching the photo to this posting. Thank you.

I am the son of Yuriko Yamashita who moved to the United States in 1955. Her family is from Hisaka Shima Island. I am seeking information on her father, Toranosuke Yamashita, (my grandfather), and her brother, Matsuo Yamashita, (my uncle), and any other family members. I will seek to make contact only if family members are interested in doing so. If not, I understand. However, I hope to at least locate the grave of my grandparents so that my mother and I can visit and pay respects. I would appreciate any information regarding my family, or ideas as to how to search for them.

I am researching two Matsuo families that came together in Sasebo-shi, Nagasaki-ken. In speaking with my grandmother, she remembers two aunts leaving for China (Manchukuo) over the war and didn't say whether they were heard from again.

Their brother went to Taiwan at the same time to head a construction team. His arms were blown off below the elbows in a dynamite accident, but developed such fine penmanship holding the brush between his elbow-stubs, that he was made the town clerk (somewher in Saga-ken).

Maybe we're researching the same family line.
