Searching for graves of Percy Alfred Nicolle & wife Susan of Kobe 1880-1920s

I am hoping to find the graves of family who lived in Kobe and likely died there. They were foreigners from England who lived in Japan from about 1881 until the 1920s.

Percy Alfred Nicolle was born about 1847 on the Island of Jersey, Channel Islands and died sometime before 1919.
His wife was Susan Hollom and she was born about 1853 in England.

I would like help contacting the Kasugano European Cemetery in Kobe to search for their graves.

Thanks for your information, Susan; if it's a "partial" list there is a chance that the task will be completed some day. Where can the list be found?

The other possible Toms burials in Kobe are: William George died 22 April 1901 & his wife Okyo Semu (Okumo Somu) died unknown. Also their children (1) William John died between 1948-1968 & his wife Onishi died unknown; (2)Alice died after 1968; and (3) probably another daughter details unknown. Exactly who Tatsu was I do not know, but I do appreciate your message.

Edward.

From a partial list of names of people buried in the Kasugano Cemetery Kobe (Foreign cemetery) there is one Toms listed without any additional name. Separately there is a Charles Mitchell listed and in the same area an Alexander A Mitchell then Mie Mitchell with Japanese name beside it which usually means that Mie was Japanese.

I have just received the death certificate of TATSU TOMS registered with the British Consulate in Kobe, Japan. It states that she was a 57 y.o. housewife of 15 Nakyo-Cho Fukiai-ku, Kobe, Japan. She died 14 November 1937 at 2615 Nishi Sugamo 2-Chome Toyoshima-Ku, Tokyo. The informant was her friend Charles Mitchell of 53 Yamamoto-dori, 1-Chome. Does anyone have further information about these two people?

Sato family- need help finding information

How do you find out information from Japan on a family?

I know that my husband's grandfather is Arthur Sato.

His father's name is something like Masao or Masozo Sato born about 1865 and lived in NY. We were told by many family members that Masao(?) was from a royal or noble family but that's all they knew.
He came over here in the 1890's but have not found the record yet. He did own a large piece of land in NY when he settled here, but lost it somehow to the state.
A friend that is from China said that the first name can actually give you the town of origin and then the house, but I would like to find out everything I can: his ancestors, his correct spelling, if there is a crest, any siblings, etc. If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it.

1910 census http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=1910USCenIndex...

1920 Census http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=1920usfedcen&a......
Kobe - Dunlop Tyre Company in 1939

I am trying to find more information on George Laurence VEARS and his family. He was born in England in 1881 and went to work for the Dunlop Tyre Company in Kobe, Japan sometime before World War Two. He was accompanied by his wife Martha (nee Pardy).

He had three children Hilda, Martha and Frederick.

Little is known of Hilda other than she may have worked for the Thomas Cook travel agency in Kobe. Martha was born in England in 1887 and that is all that is known of her.

Frederick Vears (Fred) was born in Tokyo on 10 December 1922 at 33B Akashi cho, Tsukiji. Fred attended Windsor House School at 37 Nakayamate-dori, 2-chome, Kobe from 1936 to 1939. IN 1939 at the age of 17 Fred left Japan for England aboard the ship Chitral - he arrived alone. Following enemy attacks most of his possessions and family documents were lost during the journey.

I would like to find out more information on Fred's mother and father, George and Martha and also his two sisters Hilda and Martha. Nothing is known of what became of them during the War or thereafter.

Is it possible that the Dunlop Tyre Company's records have survived and if so where? Similarly, what became of the records of Thomas Cook in Kobe?

Unfortunately I cannot speak or read Japanese and don't know how to search any records even if I could find them.

All ideas welcome.

Thanks
Christopher

Hello. Does anyone know how to look up records of Japanese military men who were in China in the early 1940's? My Japanese grandfather met and married my Chinese grandmother while he was in China in the early 1940's (before 1943). Somehow they got separated during the war and never found each other again. Where can I look up the record of Japanese men who went to China during World War 2? I would like to find my grandfather or at least find out where in Japan was he originally from. Thank you.

Masuzo Hagita

I am looking for any information about the family ancestors and history of Masuzo and Ichi Hagita in Tokyo or Chiba. Their children are Hagima, Minoru, Mariko, Tokie, and a half-brother Kurando. I'm a friend of Tokie (Hagita) Spitz. She married Jim Spitz an American Army soldier after WWII. I have some information that Masuzo Hagita was an engineer and may have been an inventor of a pump. I know the family left Tokyo and moved to Chiba during or after WWII, and that they have a family burial plot there, but I'm not sure of the exact location. Please contact me with any information you may have regarding this family, and how I may contact any living relatives. I live in California in the United States, and my email is: it3fittro@yahoo.com. Thank you. Gary
