I have been subscribing to this list for awhile..but have just found a need for help. My grandmother Masako Kretsch (nee Shoji) passed away just as I began my genealogical journey and in her papers I found what her friends told me was a bit of her family history....this is what I have had translated for me....mind you..am not sure of any of the spelling:
#10 Higashi - Uramachi-cho
Odawara - maya-cho
Sendai-shi
Miyagi prefecture
Family Head - Shoji, SOOSAKU DOB 2/24/1897
1st Daughter - MASAKO DOB 3/31/1925. mother ISHI, 3rd daughter of SATO, Risuke;
#3 Aza- Tatenokoshi, Kauamatamachi;
#47 Kokubun-cho
Sendai-shi
was made entry in the family register of her father, SOOSAKU, who set up his branch family on 9/21/1929.
Became recognized child by the marriage of SHOJI, SOOSAKU, her father and ISHI, her mother on 2/25/1931. Was accepted her notice of marriage with Mr. WILLARD E. KRETSCH, USA citizen by the head of the Chuo (spelling??) ward, Tokyo on 12/23/1952.
ok...now all of this was in Japanese and I am relying on the literal translation by one of my grandmother's friends.
First question ...What is this document called??
followed by: Is the 1st address ( at least I'm assuming it's an address) the office of the area?
When it mentions Ishi, 3rd daughter of .... does Japanese genealogy follow matrilineal lines?? If so...why haven't they left the darned maiden name????
What is the 2nd address??? family home??
on a more personal note...I'm assuming the dates may be wrong.but if my grandmother was born in 1925..and her father set up his 'branch family' in 1929...and she became a 'recognized child' by their marriage in 1931...would she (my grandmother) be considered illegitimate...or maybe Ishi was a widow with kids??? how do I find more???? in English??? If anyone can help please do :) Thank You so much!
