Looking for any information on my great-grandfather's family. His name was Abdul Rahman and he was born about 1882. When he arrived in the US from Delhi, he changed his name to John Edison.

He married a woman named Mary and they had 3 sons named Anthony, Bernard and Clarence.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

My name is Suryanshi Nayyar and I am currently enrolled in a college course regarding genealogy. My parents moved here in May 2011, to Longmeadow, Massachutsetts. Before that we lived in Sydney, Australia and before that they lived in Chandigarh, Punjab in India until 1993. Since there are not many records of my family online and none in american records, I am having some problems finding information about my family, particularly on my maternal side. My mother's name is Neeta NAYYAR and my father's name is Jiwan Sat NAYYAR. My paternal grandfather's name is Sat Pal NAYYAR and he was born on 2 January, 1936 in Kunja, Pakistan. My paternal grandmother's maiden name was Rag MARWAH and she was born on 7 April, 1942 in Kunja, Pakistan. They were both born in the same village in Pakistan and were married in 1961 in Krukshetra, India. My maternal grandfather's name is Rajinder Kumar BHANOT and he was born on 1 March, 1938 in Jhang Manghiaha, Pakistan. My maternal grandmother's name is Usha PATHAK and was born on 15 July, 1940 in Lahor, Pakistan. They were married in 1961. Both sets of my grandparents migrated to India after India and Pakistan separated.
I am particularily interested in my great grandfather, my mom's mom's father. However I do not know his name, but his last name was PATHAK. I knew that he fought in World War I and World War II. I thought that there might be some war records of him.
I would also be interested in information about my great grandfather, my dad's dad's father. His name was Naranjandas NAYYAR. I know that he also fought in World War II.
Any information about my family would be greatly appreciated. Some other key words are NAYYAR, BHANOT, PATHAK, MARWAH

If you have a look on www.familysearch.org there are some details of a James Lamond b 1899 Ediburgh, Lothian, Scotland. Not sure if this is your guy but might be a lead? As to info on Dorthy Ross if she was from an anglo-indian family, have a look on www.fibis.org there may be something on here to help.

GEORGE RHINE-my great-grandfather came to India from the UK in the 1800s. He was married to one EMILIA and had the following children.1) JOHN HENRY(1863); 2) LETITIA(1864) m. William Josephs,Children:Dudley,Ruby, William; 3)BEATRIX(1874); 4)WILLIAM m.Constance, children:GEORGE(1902), MURIEL(1903)&GLADYS(1904).
JOHN HENRY, my gf died on1Jan1930 and is buried in Saharanpur (UP), where he had settled down and also built his bungalow '"IVY VILLA". He too was a train driver. he married four times: 1. ELLEN SIMKENS D/o Henry Simkens, children: Unknown: 2.ELIZABETH MALLAN D/o James Mallan, children:KENNETH FALK:
3) EMILIA BERNARD D/o John Bernard, Children: IVY MURIEL, GEORGE STANLEY, REGINALD EDWARD, GERTRUDE and JOSEPH HUBERT. I am the son of Reginald. 4) LILIAN BALANCHE BIRD-STURGEON, issue: PATRICK who lived only two years.
There was an ALICE MAY RHINE(1883) D/o John Henry Rhine who married Edward Bowes. Could she be an aunt of mine?One LAJETAN RHINE married matilda and had one issue ARCHIBALD WILLIAM RHINE(1877). Could they be related to us. (I have given the birth year in brackets.
