Dear Janelle

I was interested to find your posts relating to Louisa Alice Duntze as last night I was transcribing the will of Samuel Munkley who died in 1800 - he was the son of Nicholas Munkley and Elizabeth Hawker (my 6th great grand aunt) of Exeter who were married in 1719. When Nicholas Munckley died in 1730 his widow remarried in 1733 a John Duntze whose son Sir John Duntze (MP for Exeter) was the father of Samuel Louis Duntze.

Here is an abbreviated extract from the will -"I give and bequeath in trust to John Burridge Cholwith and William Shaw Esq grandfather of my Great Nephew Samuel Munckley Duntze son of my late nephew Samuel Louis Duntze the sum of £1200."

It looks as if Samuel Munkley Duntze married a girl called Jane before sailing to India but I have no further information on this.

I have a considerable amount of information of the Duntze, Hawker and Munkley families which I am happy to share.

Michael Pitt-Payne
