Hi Rosemary,
We met once before Jim and Caran were married. I am married to Randy - Caran's Uncle/Janice's sister. Caran told me about your site and would love to combine. Julia is still living in Oakland. Julia's maiden name is Suen. I have been begging my kids to get their ancestory info from Arlene. Did you know she still owns the original village home, dirt floor and all she grew up in?

Mary Tam

Hi, my daughter-in-law's grand aunt was Julia Tam Owyang, wife of Elwood Owyang of Alameda, California. I believe they're both gone now, but can check with my daughter-in-law in Hawaii. My daughter-in-law's grandmother is Julia's sister(90 plus)and lives in Honolulu. I can contact her to see if she knows anything about Elwood's family. Please email me,and I'll forward to the family. I'd love to be able to expand the family tree for my daughter-in-law and my grandchildren. By the way, Julia and Elwood were always so gracious and kind to me. I miss them.

psalm91rw@yahoo.com

I think we have the same grandfather, here's why. my great grandfather was Jose mokay leong , he migrated from canton , China right before the big great earthquake. he his brother and his cuzin Juan mokay landed in san Francisco, before they moved to Sinaloa,Mexico .his cuzin alfonzo mokay stayed back in sf and contact was lost with him. that's where he met my grandma Emma mokay . my fathers name is also Jose A.Garcia Mokay named after my great grandfather Jose mokay leong. this might be a big coincidence or maybe nothing ,but the odds are slim since our storys sound almost identically the same.

Cindy: Thank you for your reply. Sorry it took so long to respond. I did find some information from the National Archives in San Bruno, CA. Our TONG name Chinese character is the same as the Tong Dynasty Character. My grandfather was from Guangdong Province, Cheongshan or Heungshan, TongGar or TongKa village. My first email said he had a family in China when he sailed to Hawaii. That is not true, he was never married or had any children. His brother's name was Tong On and married a Kan Shee. They had 10 children - 4 boys and 6 girls. They lived in Hong Kong in 1925 at No. 22 Lau Tai Toy Rd, Hong Kong, China. This information was taken from an interview with the immigration dept. in Hawaii because grandfather was sending his sons to Hong Kong to learn Chinese. I think my grandfather spoke Cantonese. Let me know if there is a connection or if you have any other information.

Hi there,

My full name is Ronald Yudo Adityo Widjaja, in the past few years I got interested to know more about my family ancestry mostly after I spent 6 months living in china few years ago and I stumbled on this post when I was searching for more info since I want to have Oey tattooed on my left arm.

I always regret that I dont have Chinese name but my father is from Oey family, Oey Kian Guan (or Goan) to be exact.
I do not know a lot about my father's family since my father passed away when I was 19, all of my document & photos (well mostly) was destroyed during flood in jakarta and for some sentimental reasons I hope we are related due to the fact that the time and location is quite close to my father's history.

My father was born in Demak on 1940, then moved / grew-up in Semarang (I heard Kranggan area), my father's sister (the oldest) moved to Netherlands and married to Dutch soldier, then there are 3-4 more siblings) and I still have relatives from my father side in Jogjakarta & Magelang, they have automotive bussiness. My grandpa passed away when my father still a kid but from what I can remember my father told us once that his great or great great grandpa came from Fujien, I might be wrong though.

Now I am trying to get in touch with them in Jogjakarta when I go back to Indonesia in January and when I know more such as my granpa name, his siblings name etc.

In the meantime it would be great if you can give me more info about you ancestry so when I meet them I can also ask if they remember their grandpa ever had relatives with you.

Thanks

The original post says that "Lee Kim Wing (b.late 1890s)" and therefore not likely that he had a child born C1912.

Does your husband's grandfather have a grave in UK, with Chinese characters? have you tried to find his service records, marriage certificate, death certificate, naturalisation papers?

Please also post your query to: http://siyigenealogy.proboards.com/index.cgi

I am very intrigated by your message : my husband is the grand son of somebody named Lee Kim Wing, born in Canton towards 1880-1890. The only thing we know is that he came in America in 1912-1913 with his little boy aged less than 1 year, he was named Lee Yuen FONG, born 28 april 1912 in Canton, died 1963 in UK, served in US Army and became the father of my husband.
I wonder if it could be the same person.
I am interested in locating the names of the men who fought in the Boxer Rebellion at the Battle of Peking in 1900.
Specifically I am looking for any men with the last name of Ronaldson, who would have come from Scotland.

Most likely the names that would be on that record would be:
Ronaldson: Peter born abt 1790 E. Lothian, his son Thomas Sherriff born 1817 in Fifeshire Scotland, his sons:Peter born abt 1848,John M born abt 1849, George abt 1854, James Henry born July 1858 or William born May 1860.

Family legend is that one of our ancestors fought in the Boxer War at the Battle of Peking.

Would anyone know where I would be able to locate those records?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also if you are a member of this family, I would love to exchange information with you. I can fill in some of the blanks on one member who came to America.

interested in connecting with anyone descended from him. He was Chief Appraiser of the Chinese Maritime Customs . He was interned in Shanghai's Pootung Camp during the war . The camp records show him as British and aged 51 . I believe he knew my Grandfather I.A.Donnelly and that they shared a stay at the Country Hospital in Shanghai late 1944 .
