I am looking for information on the marriage of George Brown HARRIS to Lavinia Caroline ZINZAN. GeorgeBrown HARRIS was born in Dublin, Ierland in 1826. He was a merchant seaman from 1840. He married Lavinia Caroline ZINZAN in the Church of Our Saviour, Shanghai, China in 1862. Lavinia Caroline ZINZAN was born in Devon, England in 1838 to Robert Compfort ZINZAN (a surgon) and Ann Elizabeth Edwards.
Any information on these interviduals as to why of how they were in China and how to obtain a copy of their marriage certificate would be greatfully received.

I am related to Lavinia Caroline Zinzan through the Edwards family.

Ann Elizabeth Edwards was the daughter of John Wakeham Edwards. John was the son of Roger Edwards. Roger Edwards was the son of Caleb Edwards and Susanna Elliot. They are my 5Gts Grandparents.

The Edwards family have a number of mariners and customs officers.

I am happy to share further information, but I don't have anything to answer your specific questions.

I am Linda Harris, wife of Chris Zinzan Harris, New Zealand Test Cricketer. You may already have your reply but yes Chris is related to thisfamily. His brothers are Ben Zinzan Harris and Tim Zinzan Harris. They are the sons of Sally Patricia Harris (nee Lillicoe) and Parke Gerald Zinzan Harris.

My grandmother is your husband's great aunt. His grandmother and mine were sisters - Gladys and Doris Giles, born 4 years apart in Caversham, Dunedin. Doris ('Aunty Dot' as we knew her) was married to Parke Zinzan Harris.
I have been researching the Giles family and would love to share info if you are interested.

Hi Linda, I am also related to this family. My common ancestors with Chris are the Edwards family from Devon in South West England. I have done quite a bit of research and would be happy to share information with you. I suppose that Chris knows that he is also related to Zinzan and Robin Brooke, the NZ All Black Rugby players.

I live in Sydney, but I have umpired some games in the Golden Oldies carnival in Christchurch in about 1994.

I am related to the Zinzan family as well. My common ancestors to Chris Harris' family are the Edwards who came from Devon in South West England.

Doris was Doris Gwendoline Eleanor Giles and she married Parke Zinzan Harris 22 Feb 1926 in Dunedin.

My side of the family is only connected through the Giles line, but my Mother has lots of memories and some pictures of the handsome Harris brothers Zin and John.
I also grew up in a small town next to the one the Brooke brothers grew up in and wondered if the name meant a connection between these families.
I also see your surname is Wright. Probably just another coincidence but it is the same surname as my grandfather, who married Gladys Giles (sister of Doris Harris).

Thanks for your message. Yes Robin and Zinzan Brooke are related and are descended from Lavinia Zinzan's brother, Robert Vaux Zinzan and Isabella Margaret Hay Powell Griffith. My Wright people came from Great Yarmouth in Norfolk,England. I don't know of any NZ connections. Regards, Ian

Just this minute I have been adding the name Zinzan to my family tree.
My connection come from alot longer ago than those mentioned here.

I believe the Zinzan's here are decendents of Allessandro Zinzan. He was born c1520. His grt grt grandson Peter(Alexander) Zinzan born c1638,Tilehurt, Berkshire, England.
Married a Judith Gunter. Judith is an ancestor of my mother.
I have the Gunter line all the way back to 1035. Though I could go back even further, to Charlemagne - King of the Franks.(2 April 742 – 28 January 814) thats just a little silly.

I have not yet made it to those here..but I am just a few gens short of making the connection. As I believe Robert Vaux Zinzan is one of those in the line to be added.

Anyway...just thought I'd throw in my tuppence.
