Hi, in Jim Herily's book " Dublin Metropolitan Police"there is a Matthew O'Brien listed. He is my grandfather by his second marriage.

Thank you for the reply.My Matthew O'Brien indicated that he was a farmer on his daughters (Annie) marriage certificate in Dublin in 1910 but on his other daughters ( Teresa, my Grandmother ) marriage certificate in 1916 he is a constable.I have been trying for years to trace Matthews marriage to a Mary Daly and I have never manage to find my own Grandmothers birth certificate who is listed on her husband(Daniel Bushe)RIC records as being born in Kings County in 1894. I would grateful for any information on the O'Briens that may help. Matthew had a son William born 1889 in Dublin, Annie born 1882 in Meath County and Teresa born 1894 in Kings County, he had a sister (?) Bridget born 1844 in Tipperary and I have a Mary Katherine O'Brien born 1862 in Limerick City who is more likely to his sister.
My mother hinted Matthew being married twice...and it may well be the reason why I can't find them in the births...step children ?

It's quite an old post so I don't know if you are still looking at these threads. In any event, my great-grandfather was Michael Sheehan who retired as an inspector in the DMP. He was born in 1866. I'd greatly appreciate any information you could give me on him or alternatively point me in the right direction of obtaining the information myself.

HI, Could you give me any information on a James Mills, bortn circa 1819 who was in the Dublin Metropolitan Police? He was married to Johnanna Mills and had a child Anna born circa 1848. His wife Johnanna died in 1858 and at this time was living in Lower Castle Yard, Dublin Castle.

My great grandfather may have been in the police in Dublin before going to Lancashire where he is listed in the 1881 census as a police constable. He was Michael Cullen born Ireland 1849. We believe in Kildare somewhere!
