John Levi Barker born 1880 in Manchester and Sarah Anne Foden married in 1904 in Goosnargh, England emigrated to South Africa on the "Walmer Castle" from Southampton to Durban on 24 December 1904 with John's brother Edwin Barker. They settled in Pietermaritzburg where John set up a successful plumbing business. They were said to live in a large house which they named "Whittingham" after Sarah's birthplace in England. Edwin returned to Manchester on 7 July 1931 but it is not certain whether he returned to South Africa. I would like to get in touch with any descendants of this family.
