I have just joined Ancsestry.co.uk & seen your note on the message board about htse two.
My husband has both their names in his family tree and we would be interested to hear of you are decended from his gradnmother, Luiza's brither Francis? If so do you have any other infromation about our part of this tree?

Our information is probably innacurate, we would be very pleased to hear of you can correct or corroberate any of it.
The information which we have is as follows:
Emmanuel Garcia Morgan, born c1803 married Louise, also born c1803

Their son, Francis Garcia Morgan, born c1833 married Martha Da Sylva, born c 1840.

I have Martha Da Sylva's father as Antoine, born c 1810 but do not know her mother

Francis & Martha's daughter, Luiza, born 1886 had 2 sons, Leon & Louis Kisnan and then later married Jean René. He adopted the 2 boys and they took his name. We have a paper showing this.

Louis had 2 sons (George & Gilbert) with his first wife. His second wife was Elsie Emily Ahkon, born 1909.

Her parents were Fernand Ahkon (his father possibly Ahtang Ahkon) & Clemence Maria, (Clemence's parents: Jean & Emilie).

They had 7 children and my husband is the youngest. The children were Peggy (died as a child), Martha, Colin, James, Erroll, Maureen & Richard.

Richard was born in Nairobi and we live in England, but all the previous generations were born in Seychelles.

With very best wishes,
Morag & Richard René

Hello!

My name is Vanessa Ludlow (nee Morgan), I am 22 and live in UK. My father has compiled a family tree which agrees with the information you have given. I am decended from both Luiza Garcia Morgan and Julien Garcia Morgan, through their children Leon Morgan and Nesta Morgan (cousins who married each other). My grandfather, Frank Morgan is their son - he was born "Rene" but later changed his name by deed poll. Therefore I have a strong "Garcia Morgan" connection, and also a "Rene" connection through Jean Andre Rene. This is all very interesting! Could do with more information about anyone who married a Morgan (eg. Jean Andre Rene or Marie Antoinette?)as our family tree only covers direct descendants of Emmanuel Garcia Morgan.

Best Wishes,

Vanessa

Francis Morgan, born c. 1838 in the Azore islands, son of Emmanuel Garcia Morgan and Louise Joakim. Francis was a stone mason who married a hat-maker named Emilie Marthe Silva b. Seychelles October 1844

Her parents had married in July 1840 and according to the certificate were;
Antony Silva ne Madere b.c 1813, son of Antony Silva & Rose Mariano and Emilie Lagrenade b. c 1825 daughter of Jean Francois Lagreanade and Caroline Margueton

Emilie died in 1859. Antoine (or Antony) died in 1857 from the "effects of a fall". According to this certificate, he had been born in the Cap Verde islands around 1817 and his name is given as Antoine Sylvain Madere.

Although Antoine was a mariner by profession, he was at one time employed in Seychelles as a policeman.

The most likely explanation as to how men from the Cap Verde islands ended up in Seychelles is that they were deserters from American whaling ships operating in Seychelles waters around the time.

I have heaps more info. If interetested drop me a line at praslin@comcast.net

Hello Vanessa. My husband, Richard, is your grandfather's first cousin. Richard's father was Louis René brother to Leon your great-grandfather and André. Leon had 3 sons, Michael (Mickey), Frank & Lenny. Richard is also related via Mickey as Mickey married Richard's sister Martha ( another 2 first cousins marrying). I have not yet updated the family tree on this site - I keep meaning to get around to it! We have gained a lot of information from Norman Morgan who lives in New Zealand. I originally contacted him through Tessa Morgan - you will probably have seen her message on this meassage board, maybe ou are in touch with him already. He has done a lot of research into the Morgans and has sent us pictures of buildings built in Seychelles by Francis Garcia Morgan & also some old family photos. We live near Micki Bennet who is another cousin (actual name Myrtle & maiden name René) & Lenny her brother - your grandfather Frank's brother & half sister as I said above!
I would be very interested to have any information which you have into this side of the family.
Very best wishes to you. Morag René

Hi Morag,
I hope you and Richard are both well. We did meet many years ago when I used to visit Mick and Martha.
I have been researching our family tree, off and on, for years. I found your email on ancestry .com ... I know Vanessa beat me to it.
How is Richard and the rest of the family?
I have been in contact with Norman in New Zealand and he sent me a couple of documents with regards to the family tree. You may have already got them. I don't think there is anything that I have found that you don't already know. I find that it is almost impossible trying go further than the first Emmanuel Garciar Morgan who lived in the Azores.

My address is: 7 Norfolk Road Barnet Hertfordshire EN5 5LS Hope to hear from you soon - my email is shown below
