Dear Ahmed,

My mother's father's surname was Benjaloune and the family was from Fez. I am also doing family research. Please feel free to contact me by email, perhaps we are related. My mother (Halima) is living and I can ask her if she knows anything more. I will try to find out the names of other relatives in case our lines connect somewhere. It will also be helpful to know the time period. My mother was born in the mid-1930's.

Hi,
BENJALOUNE sounds like a French name -- 'BEN' means mild or benign, and 'JALOU' means jealous. Since both words are irregular feminine adjectives (according to Harper's dictionary), maybe the 'une' ending is simply indicating the feminine. This may be a stretch, but it's certainly possible.

I also am trying to learn about Fez, Morocco genealogy - I know of no online sources at this time. My son's great-great grandfather was born in Fez -- Gui or Guillaume L'ORANGE and must have emigrated to USA before 1890. Although his name is of French origin, he must have also had African blood because I met his youngest daughter & she appeared full African.

I hope to learn anything & everything I can about his Fez genealogy. I'll be posting another inquiry about him. In the meantime, Hafid, I'd be fascinated to know if your mother recalls hearing of any L'ORANGE's in Fez!

Thanks ever so much, Nancy in New York

hi,
I know that family benjelloun is quiete large...I don't even know half of my family, they're apread out everywhere as I am a Benjelloun. My Grandfather was born in Fez, I still have family in Fez but most of them left for other cities as did my granfather. So we are the Benjelloun in Tangier...

I have heard in the pastthat orgins of Family Benjelloun are in Andalucia. Apparently, it was said that the "BENJELLOUNS" were Jewish, came to Morocco and eventually conveted to Islam. I am not sure how accurate this information is.

I would like to know more about the origins myself.
Please, keep me in the loop if anyone finds anything in regards.
thanks
