Ghaussi/Ghowsee/Gowsee UDHIN migrated from India (Village named Sonwanee near the Ghazipur district in Uttar Pradesh) by the Iskendar Shah Ship and arrived in Mauritius in 18 January 1873. He was married to Rosunnee/Rosummee Emambocus. When Gowsee UDHIN migrated he brought his family to Mauritius. His family were :- Sahebdin (son) Udhin (Married to Roheemun Jhangeea) ; Edoo (son) Udhin; Essoof (son) Udhin, Hauseea (daughter) Udhin.
The children of Sahebdin Udhin took their first name as surname so that from the children were known as the SAHEBDIN family.
The children of Edoo Udhin took their first name as their surname so that his children were known as the EDOO family.
The children of Essoof Udhin took their first name as their surname so that his children were known as the ESSOOF Family.
The daughter HAUSEEA UDHIN apparently returned to India but her great great great great grand children lives today in Dewsbury.
I am the fourth generation from the SAHEBDIN family born and grew up in Mauritius but now settled in the UK.
I can not say that the spelling of the surname during those days were accurately kept as they are today in the registry. Looking backwards my surname should have been UDHIN but this is well past me now. As for the UDHIN family origin they may be traced back to the state of Uttar Pradesh, District of Ghazipur , Village of Sonwanee in India.
Unfortunately I do not have any links to India as I spent half of my life in Mauritius and half of my life in the UK. Very difficult to say that there are any remaining UDHIN family in Sonwanee Village near Ghazipur unless someone goes there to query and check.
I hope this helps.
Salim.
