Hi David

I have also had to acquire birth certificates from Nyasaland days.

I was nervous about paying over the phone to a foreign country, but the bank details I was given were proven to be correct and totally safe.

This is the information I used in 2009

The telephone number for the Registrar General’s Dept is
+265 1 824355. The person to talk to is a Mr. Tembo whose
Cell Number is +265 999 151377.
I hope this is of some help.

He is very helpful - good luck

I am trying to trace the family tree for my husbands side and all I have is that they lived in Malawi and South Africa. Originally from Yorkshire? Any connection to Horn or Tenett or Tennett who lived/live in Malawi, or South Africa would be greatfully appreciated. The names I have are Reginald, Peggy, Joan, Basil and Desmond on the Tenett side and Ivor and Joan on the Horn side.

I am trying to locate my grandfathers first wife (Dorothy Ann Hawkins -
don't know maiden name).
My grandfather was Denis James Richmond Hawkins born 14/6/ 1888 in
Scotland. He fought in WW1 in a SA Volunteer Regiment and then in the
Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve as a Sub Lt.
He emigrated to Africa and travelled throughout central and east Africa
as a British Native Commissioner.
He eventually settled in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa and married his
2nd wife (my grandmother) in 1931.
I am not sure where he met and married Dorothy, or if she died or they
were divorced. I know they had a daughter called Lynette .
Can anyone help me?
Ingrid Harmse
harmse2004@yahoo.co.uk
Hello Alfreda,
I'm also looking for records from Malawi and came across this website (http://travel.state.gov/reciprocity/Country%20Folder/M/Malaw...).
We have written to the address listed for death certificates but haven't heard back from the Registrar General yet.
We're looking for records of an old friend, a tribal man called Nelson from northern Malawi whom my husband knew in the 1950s in Johannesburg, but we're not sure how lucky we'll be.
He just disappeared one day saying he was going home.
I'll let you know if we get a reply from the Registrar General.
All the best,
Jo

MALAWI DEATH RECORDS.

MY HUSBAND AND I LIVED IN LILONGWE MALAWI . HE WAS THERE FOR MANY YEARS. I WAS THERE THREE YEARS.
I MIGHT SUGGEST THAT YOU CONTACT SOME OF THE MISSIONARIES THROUGH THE CHURCHES. WHILE THERE I KNEW MISSIONARIES FROM BAPTIST, METHODIST, CHRISTIAN AND PRESBYTERIAN. THAT WIAS IN THE EIGHTIES. I HAVE LOST TRACK OF EVERYONE.
YOU MIGHT GO ON LINE, AND SEE IF YOU COULD GET ANY LISTED IN MALAWI. I REMEMBER CALLING DALLAS AND GETTING THE NAMES OF BAPTIST MISSIONARIES IN LILONGWE.
UNFORTUNATELY, I CAN NOT REMEMBER ANY OF THE GOVERNMENT NAMES. EVEN IF I COULD, THEY HAVE NO DOUBT CHANGED SINCE I WAS THERE. DR. KUMUZU IS NO LONGER IN OFFICE.
I DO KNOW THAT THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH STILL HAS MISSIONARIES IN MALAWI. WHEN I WAS THERE, THE CHURCH HAD A MISSION SCHOOL IN LILONGWE AND A HOSPITAL OUT IN THE BUSH.

SORRY I CAN'T BE OF MORE HELP.
GOOD LUCK

JACQUELINE HOLT-AKERS
