Hi Fountane, I know it's been a long time so I hope you see my post.

I'm curious as to what part of the country your surname comes from? Since my last post here, I think I've found a link to my ancestor James A. Fountain via slave owner (of the plantation, Fountainebleau), William Spotswood Fontaine from King William Co. VA, who ironically, was a descendant of Patrick Henry and Alexander Spotswood, Lt. Governor of VA. Crazy, huh?

After viewing a lot of information on their lineage, I saw several instances where the last name was spelled like yours as well. :)

Information passed down in my family, explained that the spelling of my last name was orginally Fontaine, but was changed when my great-great-grandparents were freed from slavery and made their way north.

Anyway, I was just curious.

Hi,
I also had members of my Olsen family living on Madagascar, in Tulear, Morondava or Antananarivo. My grandfather, Ole Olsen, went there from Stavanger about 1869-1872 with his wife and 4 children. I think that 3 more children, Gudmund, Ingwal and Anna, were born there. Is anyone able to tell me how I can find the birth information for these 3 on Madagascar or anything about their lives. I have some information about the oldest daughter, Martha Serine, who married a missionary, Lars Rostvig and lived in Tulear.
Thanks!
Karen.

This is a really interesting story. I have one that is similar. My Name is Monica Thompson and I am a descedant of George Henry Thomson born in Madagascar, Africa in 1795, taken as a slave from his native land to Virgina like most slaves. He told the story of his mother who was of Indoneisan descent and refered to her as a mistress of royalty (prince) from the Continent Africa. We know through stories past down and documented that he was sold in Virgina and taken to a plantation in Kentucky. He ran away to Pennsylvania where he lived with Quakers. Then he ran to New York Niagra Falls area and began working as a coachman and blacksmith for a white family from Liverpool England. It was there that he fell in love and ran away with Eliza Jane Ford their 15 year old daughter. By this time he was in his late 30's. The crossed over at Niagra Falls and resided in North Buxton, Ontario Canada. From there they lived on Walpole Island and their final residence was Colchester South, Essex, Ontario Canada. He died there in 1895. We were told that we have other family from a different blood line when he was a slave. He was previously married. I don't know how to search for his family in Madagascar. But would love to find that link! His complextion was also black with slanted eyes and very long silky smooth hair. Thank you for sharing your story. It brings me hope.

OMG.
omg.
Adeone Corneau, nee Hitie, was my Great Aunt, my mom's Aunt. We live (I used to live) in Montreal for decades. Philip Ernestine was my Grand Father, my Dad's father. I know all about the "accident" in Africa and the 11 children my dad was left to help raise or place elsewhere. Some with grandma's first husband Philip, some with her second husband.

There are Ernestine's and Pouponneau's on my and my dad's side, Hitie on my mom's side. Then it gets fuzzy.
Please contact me, there is much to talk about.

Regards,
Hans

Hello, I know this is along time between posts. Stacey, I am also daughter of Rex Olaf OLSEN, and it was only by chance that I happened across this thread. I only found out at age 18 that he was my father and married to my mother presumably before yours. I am originally from Gisborne, and although dont have any contact with Kath, Ray + family I do travel up there occasionally and do bump into them. I dont know alot about Rex, and met him only a couple of times when he lived there before he died. If you have any information that you may like to share, would be grateful.

Thanks Tina

I am a great great grand daughter of Jake and Cochina Cameron. My fatherwas Ennis Ray Jackson Sr., His parents were Gus Jackson and Susanna Cameron. Susanna was the first grand daughter of Jake and Cochina from her son Charlie Cameron of Naples Tx. I would like to know the person that posted this inquire. From what i was told by my aunts (Honey(Nathila) and Charlett) Giles and Snodgrass were the names of the slave owners family and also the biological fathers of Robert Giles and Charlie Cameron the only sons of Cohina. Jake cameron was not the father of either by raised them as his own. Robert after finding out that jake was not his father took the name of his natural father and left home. Charlie stayed with his mother and jake and yes they were cattle ranchers my aunt Honey was born in 1917 and died in 2005 she was 12 years old when cochina died.

Brigette R.
The confirmed info I have to date is that John Cameron came to Toronto, Canada from Scotland and there married Hannah Fraser in 1876. His sister Anne was in Toronto too and was a witness to his marriage.

I am not positive on this (95%), but it appears he was born in Nigg, Kincardine, Scotland in 1850. His parents were James and Catharine (Ramsay) Cameron. His parents originally lived in Birse, Aberdeen, Scotland but moved to Nigg sometime before April 1839. They had two children in Birse, and 5 more in Nigg.

Thanks for your reply....I would love more info on the Cameron name (roots) and its introduction to America. Also, one of my main ancestors was a man named Jake Cameron, who, I am told, was an AmericanIndian slave that eventually lived free in Texas, with his wife Cochina (African). I am trying to find slave or other records on him, and on their land holdings in Texas (I've been told that they were cattle ranchers and had land holdings as well). Thank you....D.C.

I am searching for information regarding James Cameron born 1844 in Scotland. I have been led to believe that he was born in Ayrshire and left Scotland with his older Sister when he was 8 or 10 years old. He supposedly moved to Ontario, Canada, and then as an adult to Sanilac County, Michigan. His Daughter, Agnes, married Daniel S. Armstrong

G'day !
We are on Vancouver Island just now and staying with one of Dee's cousins.Their family tree from the Carey family goes right back to the 1300's and they originated in Gurnsey. Fascinating stuff. So I thought that I would check up on ours to see how you were getting on . I still have a lot of stuff from the Peneguys in New Orleans ( or did you take that with you ?). Anyway, I'll check up on that when we get home.

We have been across here since Aug 4 and have completed a 1400 mile cruise of the BC coast and I nside Passage. Just great as usual. Most of it was on a friends 52ft launch, but we had 12 days on the Duen, the boat that we charter every year for the groups that we organise. WE even managed to have a close encounter with a very large grizzly bear and had to make a strategic withdrawal to get out of his way !

We are due back home on Oct 14 but I have been asked to skipper an 85ft "superyacht" from San Francisco down to Cabo san Lucas in Mexico. The job would be for 8 weeks, so I might not get home until mid December. Dee will go home on Oct 14 .

Tams and Gareth are at present delivering a 90ft Swan ketch from Auckland to san Diego and are currently in Rarotonga.

Michael's new group and CD are going well having just completed a national tour.
Hope all is well with you guys
Cheers for now

Mike and Dee
Hi ya Tanyia, My name is Stacey, daughter of Rex Olaf OLSEN b. Oct 11 1945 - d. Oct 20 1994, and Joyce LAWRIE. Rex was one of many sibblings although I am only aware of a few of their names. Kath married Ray Harding and had 2 sons and last I knew had settled in Gisborne. Len Olsen married Ismay and had 3 sons and a daughter. They used to live between Hastings and Napier but moved mid 80's to Kauwau Island in the Hauraki Gulf. Other names that I recall were sisters Gladis and Ola. One of them lived in Tokoroa, and the other moved to Stokes Valley in the 80's. Unfortunately both Rex's parents died before my mother came onto the scene so I do not know their names. Because of my father now being deseased and never having a close relationship with him before he died, I am at a complete standstill in finding any information so anything that you may have to offer would be of great appreciation.

Stacey Alexander (nee Olsen)

Thank you Tanya for your proposal. If you could help, it would be wonderful.
I have now the confirmation that George was living somewhere in Auckland. I have found an internet site on boxing:
www.geocities.com/kiwiboxing/welter.htm, Mike Attree, the responsible of this site, has sent to me by email the amateur and professional record, in welterweight of my gr-uncle George OLSEN, covering the period of Sept 20, 1910 to jan 27, 1921. But he did not give me any address on where he was living, etc...

Besides that, I have found that in Sir George Grey's book, this author has listed a Captain J. OLSEN who has
arrived in Auckland before 1886. I have the feeling that this J. OLSEN is my gr-gr-father. The reference of
this source is GNZ MSS 275, p 148. I have no idea where one can find this book. It can be in the Library or Archives of Auckland. (www.aucklancity.govt.nz/dbtw-wpd/exec/dbtwpub.dll).

Where are you living?
Thank you again.
Maryse OLSEN
